En quoi l'Amour est-il mystique? Au debut des annees 1940, alors que le monde sombrait dans la folie de la guerre, la ville de Bale, en Suisse, fut le lieu d'une intervention remarquable du Ciel. Adrienne von Speyr et Hans Urs von Balthasar, dont les chemins venaient de se croiser, recurent de Dieu, dans une discretion totale, d'etre introduits surnaturellement par Lui dans de nouvelles profondeurs de sa Revelation. Cette grace leur fut dispensee pendant vingt-sept ans. Entre autres resultats, elle devait conduire, avec leur collaboration, a un fruit theologique etonnant, destine a l'Eglise, et qui se presente aujourd'hui sous la forme d'une uvre 'une et double' de tout premier plan. Cette uvre theologique est presentee ici pour la premiere fois en son origine precise et dans le processus de son elaboration. En tenant compte non seulement de sa position propre dans l'histoire de la theologie, mais surtout de son contexte natif surnaturel et de sa structuration specifique liee a une mission double, le cur de l'uvre est ensuite soigneusement expose: ce qu'elle apporte de totalement nouveau sur Dieu, les avancees dans la comprehension et l'enonciation theologique de Son Mystere trinitaire. A partir d'en haut, et d'une maniere remarquablement objective (biblique), brille alors l'inoui du don eternel fait a l'homme: l'Amour s'offrant lui-meme en partage, allant jusqu'a faire de la creature un partenaire. Dieu faisant surgir, a partir de lui-meme, et conformement a Ses lois trinitaires les plus intimes, la mystique de l'Amour.
