The needs and behavior of building users often differ from the original expectations of building planners; especially in buildings with innovative building technologies. The aim of this study was to explore the design of user participation for certified office buildings, reveal influencing factors and recommend how success factors can be integrated into the German Assessment Scheme for Sustainable Buildings (BNB).

This report to the OCLC membership summarizes findings of an international study on information-seeking habits and preferences. It provides the findings and responses from an online survey in an effort to learn more about library use, awareness and use of library electronic resources, the Internet search engine, the library and the librarian, free vs. for-fee information, and the "library" brand.

The development of an e-commerce website is crucial considering the nature of SME's daily business and its importance to face the competition. Besides their brick and mortar presence, most of today’s companies are working on their digital prints by searching for ways to enhance the experience of their online shopper. Today’s users’ expectations are continuously growing and evolving, thus building an interface that only relies on product offering is not enough anymore. It is now about implicitly luring the user to the product by implementing user experience and usability techniques and guidelines. Therefore, Etilux has decided to join the digital wave by looking for ways to improve their e-commerce website and satisfy their users. Through this project, we were able to answer our research questions and understand the key building blocks of a usable website and positive user experience. This has been achieved through a literature review that represents our theoretical context and starting ground. Then, a benchmark analysis was realized alongside the most performant online competitors, this gave us an overview of the best used practices. Finally, a qualitative study through in-depth interviews was carried out with 20 experts in the field. Summarizing our findings, we represent the guidelines in terms of two models to follow in order to create a positive user experience based on usability. The models indicate the key factors that should be respected by the company. Moreover, we also discovered that the respect and the implementation of these techniques will lead to trust building and consequently user satisfaction on the e-commerce site. The recommendations issued by this thesis bring to both the company and the academic literature a key reference. This study offers the managers of Etilux an opportunityus to strengthen their online presence and drive positive results throughout guidelines identified in our qualitative research.

Researches illustrated that people spend an average of 87% of their time enclosed in buildings and more precisely 69% of their time at home (Klepeis, et al., 2001), and with the current direction of the construction sector these building are becoming more and more restricted in energy consumption. As a consequence, numerous POE (post-occupancy evaluation) studies conducted on these high-performance buildings highlight the fact that the reduction of energy consumption has an effect on users’ indoor environmental comfort, such as the study conducted by (Pastore & Andersen, 2019) illustrating that the satisfactory rate doesn’t exceed 50% when it comes to IAQ (indoor air quality). Furthermore, after reviewing the main factors contributing on air quality, ventilation systems seem to be a critical factor. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the efficiency of different ventilation systems on IAQ using quantitative on-site monitoring conducted on 5 residential buildings in Belgium. As an additional contribution of the study, the interaction of the occupants with these systems will be analyzed in a qualitative manner, regarding their operating mode, maintenance frequency, and personal sensations based on the combination of in-depth surveys and profiling (Bruxelles Environnement, 2017). Based on the analysis conducted in the study, the results confirm that the occupants behavioral pattern has more impact on the ventilation systems than the maintenance factor, and this impact is proportional with the degree of the performance of the constructions. Mechanical ventilation systems proves to be the most efficient ventilation system when it comes to an even distribution of the indoor air quality and satisfaction rate. However, a calculation based on the occupants’ behavioral pattern must be established to avoid miscalculations and reduce discomfort. Finally, the research highlights the fact that the personal control on the ventilation systems when it comes to the adaptation method (such as the openings and the free cooling concept), has a major contribution on the occupants’ satisfaction rate.
