Die Termini Prototyp, Schema und Konstruktion bezeichnen drei zentrale Konzepte, anhand derer im Rahmen funktional-kognitiv ausgerichteter Grammatiktheorien die mentale Repräsentation grammatischer Strukturen und Relationen modelliert wird. In diesem Band werden diese Konzepte durch neue linguistische Analysen zur Morphologie und Syntax des Deutschen aus anwendungsbezogenen Disziplinen wie der Spracherwerbs-, Sprachverarbeitungs- und Sprachwandelforschung unter der Anwendung eines breiten methodischen Spektrums, das von der Analyse authentischer Texte und Gesprächsdaten über Korpusanalysen hin zu experimentellen Künstwörtertests und Eye-Tracking-Experimenten reicht, überprüft und eröffnen damit neue Erkenntnisse zur Modellierung kognitiver Mechanismen der Organisation sprachlichen Wissens aus funktional-kognitiver Perspektive. Prototype, schema and construction are three central concepts that can be used to model mental representations of grammatical structures and relations within the frame of functional-cognitive grammar theories. This volume reviews these concepts using new linguistics analyses of the morphology and syntax of the German language from applied disciplines, taking into consideration a wide methodological spectrum.

Obgleich die Auxiliarselektionsforschung eine umfassende Tradition aufweist, sind Studien zu arealer, funktionaler und verarbeitungsbedingter Auxiliarvariation ein nach wie vor aktuelles Desiderat. Forschungsgegenstand der Untersuchung ist daher die synchrone Variation telischer Auxiliarkonstruktionen mit 'angefangen' im Repertoire autochthoner westfälischer (Niederdeutsch-)SprecherInnen. Im Zentrum des theoretischen Interesses steht die Frage nach der konstruktionsgrammatischen Rekonstruktion medialitäts- und sprachverarbeitungsbedingter syntaktischer Variation im Sprachwissen. Methodisch bedient sich die Untersuchung eines kombinierten Ansatzes aus korpuslinguistischen Sprachgebrauchsanalysen und einem Sprachverarbeitungsexperiment (Eye-Tracking). Die Ergebnisse der Arbeit verdeutlichen die Vorteile eines varietäten- und medialitätsbasierten Zugangs für die Untersuchung syntaktischer Konstruktionen im Rahmen der Konstruktionsgrammatik. Schließlich eröffnet die Untersuchung Herausforderungen und Chancen im Zusammenhang von gebrauchsbasierter Methodik und theoriegesättigter Rekonstruktion von regionalsyntaktischen Konstruktionen im Sprachwissen.

Cognitive Linguistics is an approach to language study based on the assumptions that our linguistic abilities are firmly rooted in our cognitive abilities, that meaning is essentially conceptualization, and that grammar is shaped by usage. The Handbook of Cognitive Linguistics provides state-of-the-art overviews of the numerous subfields of cognitive linguistics written by leading international experts which will be useful for established researchers and novices alike. It is an interdisciplinary project with contributions from linguists, psycholinguists, psychologists, and computer scientists which will emphasise the most recent developments in the field, in particular, the shift towards more empirically-based research. In this way, it will, we hope, help to shape the field, encouraging methodologically more rigorous research which incorporates insights from all the cognitive sciences. Editor Ewa Dąbrowska was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship 2018.
