A simple man from the provinces, Friedrich Radszuweit merged popular culture, consumerism, and politics as the leader of the League for Human Rights, Germany's first mass homosexual organization. The Seduction of Youth is the first study to focus on the League and its leader, using his position at the centre of the Weimar-era gay rights movement to tease out the diverging political strategies and contradictory tactics that distinguished the movement. By examining news articles and opinion pieces, as well as literary texts and photographs in the League's numerous pulp magazines for homosexuals, Javier Samper Vendrell reconstructs forgotten aspects of the history of same-sex desire and subjectivity. While recognizing the possibilities of liberal rights for sexual freedom during the Weimar Republic, the League's'respectability politics'failed in part because Radszuweit's own publications contributed to the idea that homosexual men were considered a threat to youth, doing little to change the views of the many people who believed in homosexual seduction – a homophobic trope that endured well into the twentieth century.

Balancing long-overlooked and well-known works from early modern England, "Same-sex desire in early modern England, 1550-1735: an anthology of literary texts and contexts" is a collection of English texts about homoerotic love, relationships, desires, and sexual acts. The anthology's core texts are selections from works of drama, fiction, romance, poetry, essays and translation. These core texts are carefully introduced and annotated, and supplemented with illuminating contextual material from other early modern disciplines such as law, medicine, and theology. Juxtaposing literary and non-literary representations of same-sex erotic desire, this anthology explores a rich tradition of works both celebrating and condemning same-sex erotic love.

This collection of essays takes stock of the 'new Britissh queer history'. It is intended both for scholars and students of British social and cultural history and of the history of sexuality and for a broader readership interested in queer issues. British queer history builds on the first wave of sexual diversity scholarship in the 1970s but, since the turn of the millennium, there has been a remarkable efflorescence of deeply researched, theoretically savvy work, covering the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, that has taken the study of 'gay and lesbian' history in intriguing new directions. In offering a snapshot of the field, this volume demonstrates the richness and promise of one of the most vibrant areas of modern British history and the complexity and breadth of discussion, debate and approach. It showcases challenging think-pieces from leading luminaries alongside some of the most original and exciting research by established and emerging young scholars. Drawing on a wide variety of source materials, the topics range from newspaper reporting of sodomy cases, to homoerotic representations of male youths in art, to queer autobiographical accounts, to oral histories of Scottish lesbians, to the camp world of gossip writers, to gay pornography and to much else besides. The book provides a plethora of fresh perspectives and a wealth of new information, suggests enticing avenues for research and - in bringing the whole question of sexual identity to the forefront of debate - challenges us to rethink the parameters of the field.
