In the toroidal tire cavity, standing waves can occur, leading to very high amplitudes. To investigate the cavity modes, experimental investigations are performed with pulse excitation, on a tire inner-drum test bench and under real operating conditions with a vehicle. At first, fundamental examinations are presented that focus on the identification of cavity modes and on the different system states. In a next step, various excitation mechanisms and important influencing factors are considered.

Photonic jets (PJs) are important mesoscale optical phenomena arising from electromagnetic waves interacting with dielectric particles. PJs have applications in super-resolution imaging, sensing, detection, patterning, trapping, manipulation, waveguiding, signal amplification and high-efficiency signal collection, among others. This reprint provides an overview of the field and highlights recent advances and trends in PJ research.

Micro/nanofluidics-based lab-on-a-chip devices have found extensive applications in the analysis of chemical and biological samples over the past two decades. Electrokinetics is the method of choice in these micro/nano-chips for transporting, manipulating, and sensing various analyte species (e.g., ions, molecules, fluids, and particles). This book aims to highlight the recent developments in the field of micro/nano-chip electrokinetics, ranging from the fundamentals of electrokinetics to the applications of electrokinetics to both chemo- and bio-sample handling.
