Der Umgang mit sexualisierter Gewalt in kirchlichen Kontexten ist unzureichend. Zwar wurden Maßnahmen zur Intervention und Prävention unternommen, spezifische kirchliche und theologische Ermöglichungsbedingungen sind aber noch zu wenig beachtet worden. Bisher fehlen interdisziplinäre und interkonfessionelle Studien zum Problem des Vorfeldes sexualisierter Gewalt in kirchlichen Kontexten. Dabei geht es um Theologien und Strukturen, die in ihrer Ambivalenz einen Bezug zur sexualisierten Gewalt aufweisen und Reaktionspflichten hemmen.Diese Blickbegrenzung soll im Gespräch zwischen verschiedenen theologischen Fächern (Bibelwissenschaften, Ethik, Pastoral- und Religionspsychologie) und anderen relevanten Disziplinen (Geschichtswissenschaften, Psychologie, Kriminologie) überwunden werden, um ein kritisches Denken und Handeln in Theologie und Kirche im Bewusstsein der Persistenz spezifischer Formen sexualisierter Gewalt und etablierter Reaktionsformen zu entwickeln.Gemeinsames Ergebnis der einzelnen Studien dieses Bandes ist, dass die Berücksichtigung der Erfahrung sexualisierter Gewalt im Kontext kirchlicher Institutionen die Akzeptanz zugrundeliegender theologischer und seelsorglicher Annahmen ändert. Religious settings have specifically proven to be potential places of sexual violence in the absence of adequate protection of bodily and psychological integrity. In an interdisciplinary and interdenominational conversation, basic religious factors are analyzed that cause specific patterns of abuse and lead to the failure of duties of protection.

This book offers insights and perspectives from a study of "Cultural Encounters in Intervention Against Violence" (CEINAV) in four EU-countries. Seeking a deeper understanding of the underpinnings of intervention practices in Germany, Portugal, Slovenia and the United Kingdom, the team explored variations in institutional structures and traditions of law, policing, and social welfare. Theories of structural inequality and ethics are discussed and translated into practice.

Vitanza (author of Sexual Violence in Western Thought and Writing) continues to rethink the problem of sexual violence in cinema and how rape is often represented in "chaste" ways, in the form of a Chaste Cinematics. Vitanza continues to discuss Chaste Cinematics as participating in transdisciplinary-rhetorical traditions that establish the very foundations (groundings, points of stasis) for nation states and cultures. In this offering, however, the initial grounding for the discussions is "base materialism" (George Bataille): divine filth, the sacred and profane. It is this post-philosophical base materialism that destabilizes binaries, fixedness, and brings forth excluded thirds. Vitanza asks: why is it that a repressed third, or a third figure, returns, most strangely as a "product" of rape and torture? He works with Jean-Paul Sartre and Page duBois's suggestion that the "product" is a new "species." Always attempting unorthodox ways of approaching social problems, Vitanza organizes his table of contents as a DVD menu of "Extras" (supplements). This menu includes Alternate Endings and Easter Eggs as well as an Excursus, which invokes readers to take up the political exigency of the DVD-Book. Vitanza's first "Extra" studies a trio of films that need to be reconsidered, given what they offer as insights into Chaste Cinematics: Amadeus (a mad god), Henry Fool (a foolish god), and Multiple Maniacs (a divine god who is raped and eats excrement). The second examines Helke Sander's documentary Liberators Take Liberties, which re-thinks the rapes of German women by the Russians and Allies during the Battle of Berlin. The third rethinks Margie Strosser's video-film Rape Stories that calls for revenge. In the Alternate Endings, Vitanza rethinks the problem of reversibility in G. Noe's Irreversible. In the Easter Eggs, he considers Dominique Laporte's "the Irreparable," as the object of loss and Giorgio Agamben's "the Irreparable," as hope in what is without remedy. The result is not another film-studies book, but a new genre, a new set of rhetorics, for new ways of thinking about cinematics, perhaps postcinematics.

Sexual assault can be considered as expression of aggression through sex. This, in turn, can have serious negative effects on a survivor’s social and occupational functioning. This book has been organized towards that specific approach, by compiling the scientific work of very well-known scientists from all over the world. The psychological victimization of sexual assault, the physiological aspect of sexual abuse and the different attitudes in coping with sexual assault based on different cultural backgrounds are analyzed. Having in mind that one solution may not necessarily be suitable for all cases, we hope that this book will open a debate on sexual assault for future practice and policy and that it will be a step forward to ‘break the silence’.

Providing a front row seat at critical courtroom battles over seduction, pimping, rape, and sodomy in early twentieth-century New York City, Brian Donovan uses verbatim trial transcripts to understand the city's history during the so-called "first sexual revolution." By tracing the revolutionary and repressive dimensions of this time period, Donovan reveals how conflicting ideas about sex and gender shaped the city's criminal justice system. He unearths stories of sexual violence and legal injustice that contradict the image of early twentieth-century America as a time of sexual revolution and progress. Police and courts often served the interests of the upper classes, men, and racial and ethnic majorities, but the trial transcripts included here reveal the considerable extent to which members of working-class and immigrant communities used the machinery of law enforcement for their own ends. Many previous books have fully documented and analyzed the sensational trials of turn-of-the-century New York City, but none have paid such close attention to the courtroom experiences of common city dwellers.
