Prepared by the ASCE Task Committee to Expand and Update Manual 54 of the Sedimentation Committee of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of ASCE Sedimentation Engineering: Processes, Measurements, Modeling, and Practice presents extensive advances in methods of investigation, measurement, and analysis in the specialized field of sedimentation engineering. A supplement to the classic Sedimentation Engineering (Manual 54), this new volume not only documents the evolution of the field over a 50-year period, but also reports on the state of the practice. This manual addresses new topics in physical processes, measurements, modeling, and practice, mainly in the context of rivers and inland water bodies. With contributions from internationally recognized experts in various fields, MOP 110 will benefit hydrologists, geomorphologists, sedimentoloigists, land-use planners, and soil conservation specialists, as well as environmental, hydraulic, and agricultural engineers.

Ask yourself this: Are my home and loved ones safe from floods? Most people know that levees are structures built near rivers and lakes to reduce the risk of flooding. But what does it mean to live behind a levee? How much protection does a levee really provide? What do you need to know to remain as safe as possible? So, You Live Behind a Levee! was created to help answer your questions about levees and their associated risk. Most importantly, it is intended to help you act now to better protect yourself against future flood threats.

Proceedings of the Fifth International Coastal Dynamics Conference, held in Barcelona, Spain, April 4-8, 2005. Sponsored by Laboratori D.enginyeria Martima Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. Supported by International Centre for Coastal Resources Research; E.T.S. D'enginyers de Camins, Canals i Ports de Barcelona; D.G. de Investigacion, Ministerio de Educacion y Ciencia; D.G. de Costas, Ministerio de Medio Ambiente; Dursi, Generalitat de Catalunya; Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. With cooperation of the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute of ASCE. This collection contains 118 papers comprising a valuable source of information on coastal dynamics from the latest research to the newest engineering applications. Coastal zones are fragile environments that support many conflicting uses, particularly in developed countries. To diagnose and mitigate problems, the complex dynamics of coastal zones, especially processes and scales, must be carefully analyzed. These papers investigate the coexistence of scales and the roles they play in episodic events. Topics include: bed/suspended fluxes, coarse to silt sediments, morphodynamics in various environments, sediment fluxes with and without structures, and the interaction with climactic drivers and coastal structures at various scales.
