Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are toxic organic compounds that resist environmental degradation through biological, chemical, and photolytic processes. Many POPs are currently used as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, solvents, and industrial chemicals. Because of their persistence, POPs bioaccumulate and adversely affect human health and the environment. Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) - Monitoring, Impact and Treatment deals with several aspects of POP monitoring, occurrence, impact, and treatment technologies. The book is divided into two sections containing nine chapters that address such topics as the effect of POPs on wildlife, their role in hepatocarcinogenesis, treatment of POPs in wastewater, and much more.

This Guidance Document is addressed to those who are involved in risk assessment and management of chemicals called POPs (persistent organic pollutants) or PBTs (persistent and bio-accumulating toxics). It is about using multimedia models, i.e. generic evaluative models that can calculate overall environmental persistence (Pov) and potential for long-range transport (LTRP) covering multiple compartments such as air, water, sediment and soil: what models you can use to identify and characterize POPs/PBTs, what data to use, and how to use model calculations.

Despite the proliferation of pain clinics and various pain-oriented therapies, there is an absence of data supporting any substantial change in the statistics regarding the incidence, development and persistence of pain. As renowned pain clinician and scientist Daniel M. Doleys argues, there may be a need for a fundamental shift in the way we view pain. In this thoughtful work, Doleys presents the evolving concept and complex nature of pain with the intention of promoting a broadening of the existing paradigm within which pain is viewed and understood. Combining neuroscience, psychology, and p
