While many clinicians currently recognize that bisphosphonate usage is associated with osteonecrosis of the jaws, this book establishes the causal relationship between the two, explaining the biologic modes of action that enable bisphosphonates taken both orally and intravenously to induce osteonecrosis of the jaws. Like the first edition, it presents definitive treatment protocols for patients who present at each stage in the progression of osteonecrosis, but this new edition also includes a simplified staging system and information about the serum CTX test for oral bisphosphonate cases. In addition, several management principles and surgical techniques are provided, along with new data on osteopenia and osteoporosis, the conditions for which bisphosphonates are primarily prescribed. The book offers a simple method for predicting risk as well as crucial recommendations for preventing the disease from developing when bisphosphonate therapy is indicated. Comprehensive case histories related to both oral and intravenous bisphosphonates provide direct guidance in managing patients spanning the full presentation spectrum.

Osteonecrosis is a disease caused by reduced blood flow to bones in the joints, including the hip, knee, shoulder, and ankle. The disease, which is usually progressive and leads to joint failure, occurs in young adults aged from their twenties to their fifties. The pathogenesis of osteonecrosis is still unclear, and treatment remains controversial. This textbook provides up-to-date and comprehensive information on the pathophysiology, etiology, diagnosis, classification, and treatment of osteonecrosis. The role of various imaging modalities is considered, and both non-surgical and surgical treatment approaches are clearly explained. The contributions, all from experts in the field, are based on presentations at leading international meetings during the past 10 years and on peer-reviewed papers. The book will be of interest not only to clinical practitioners but also to those engaged in basic research.

The present book recapitulates the articles published within the Special Issue "Cartilage Repair and Regeneration: Focus on Multi-Disciplinary Strategies", Applied Sciences, MDPI, dealing with the innovative multi-disciplinary therapeutic approaches for musculoskeletal diseases. In particular the published studies space from advanced 3D bioprinting technology to obtain a scaffold with different zonal cell densities, and biphasic scaffold (ChondroMimetic) construction, pass through the comparison of different techniques for cartilage regeneration such as of mosaicplasty and matrix-assisted autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) and histopathological features of osteochondral units, and end with the considerations regarding development of bioreactors able to mimic the biomechanical load on chondrocytes in vitro, giving some interesting insights in this specific scientific field.

The dental curriculum is like a living organism—it has developed through time, manifesting regional, cultural, and scientific heritage, and reflecting modern trends. The undergraduate dental curriculum is periodically rebuilt to ensure the harmonization of higher education systems between countries, especially in Europe. Structure, content, learning, and assessment in undergraduate and postgraduate dental education and auxiliary dental personnel training are shaped based on professional consensus. Constant updates on recent technological innovations and evidence-based best practice are necessary. In modern times, ethical issues are raised more than ever. Can we teach our students how to be dedicated health professionals and manage a successful practice at the same time? Does the commercialization of our profession also affect the dental curriculum today? The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed new challenges, moving us from lecture rooms and clinics to an online environment. This Special Issue is dedicated to developing the understanding of dental education.
