The study of neutrinos and their interaction with matter has made many important contributions to our present knowledge of physics. This advanced text introduces neutrino physics and presents a theoretical framework for describing relativistic particles. It gives a pedagogical description of the neutrino, its properties, the standard model of electroweak interactions, and neutrino scattering from leptons and nucleons. Focusing on the role of nuclear effects, the discussion extends to various processes of quasielastic, inelastic, and deep inelastic scattering from nucleons and nuclei. Neutrino sources, detection and oscillation, along with the role of neutrinos in astrophysics and motivation for the need of physics beyond the standard model are discussed in detail. This topical book will stimulate new ideas and avenues for research, and will form a valuable resource for advanced students and researchers working in the field of neutrino physics.

"This book discusses the fundamental concepts of neutrinos, their properties and interactions with matter. The text covers the field theory of neutrinos, necessary to understand the standard model (SM) of electroweak interactions. Applications of neutrino scattering processes from the nucleons and nuclei are discussed in detail. Nuclear-medium effects in quasielastic scattering, and inelastic and deep inelastic scattering are also covered in depth. A separate chapter on neutrinos in astrophysics highlights the applications of various neutrino processes in the understanding of the Universe and its evolution. The text will be useful for graduate students and academic researchers in the fields of particle physics and nuclear physics."--

The ARENA Workshop in Zeuthen was the first to combine extensively the fields of acoustic and radio detection techniques for high-energetic particle cascades from cosmic neutrino interactions. The articles in this volume comprise the latest research work which was presented by over 50 speakers from 10 countries. The wide coverage includes: theoretical predictions on fluxes and the potentialities of new techniques, theoretical and experimental results on target material properties, the fundamentals of interactions and cascade simulation, and current experimental results and the most recent neutrino flux limits. The book also considers future plans and experiments for both radio and acoustic methods with the aim of giving the reader an up-to-date overview of this rapidly developing field.
