Abstract

History is written in archives, but archival work itself is also subject to change over time. Using the Prussian State Archives in Schleswig-Holstein as an example, this process is examined over the period of its existence from 1870 to 1947. The focus is on the changes in the core tasks, i.e. how the process of evaluating documents changed, what challenges the storage of archival records offered and how much the use of the archive fluctuated. The question of the extent to which individual influences played a role is also emphasized. The other Prussian state archives are used as a comparison. In addition, due to the close historical connection, the relations with Denmark are illuminated.

Abstract

Ever since it gained independence, Greece has maintained a very special relationship with France, more so than with any other country in Europe. Periods of upheaval during the 20th century may have strained the bonds, but the deep connection between the two nations has never come into question. The staying power of this kinship invites us to examine what underpins their close relationship, how it has endured and regenerated, and to examine the ways in which the two countries have continuously interacted over the years. The resources for this study came from the extensive, sometimes little-known archives, in both Athens and Paris, and brought together archivists and historians in a joint effort to go beyond the usual clichés of Philhellenism and Francophilia.

Abstract

"This book explores the notebooks of S. Belle, an astrologer who lived in late fifteenth-century France, as a case study of late medieval astrological practice. These notebooks combine astrological doctrine, a large collection of horoscopes, an almanac, and three complete judgements of nativities. By studying Belle's methods, processes of learning, and practices, this book contributes to a better understanding of the internal architecture of astrology in the pre-modern world; this includes its techniques, methodologies, goals, transmission, and development throughout history. It offers an internalist view of the practice of astrology, as a counterpart to the existing research into astrology's social and cultural impact"--
