Die vorliegende Untersuchung nähert sich dem kommunikativen Funktionieren von Museumsausstellungen aus zwei Perspektiven.Der erste Untersuchungsteil arbeitet mit den Methoden der Textlinguistik und -semiotik. Er beantwortet empirisch die Frage, wie Besucherinnen und Besucher die multimodalen Erscheinungsformen im Ausstellungsraum als Kommunikationsangebot auffassen und nutzen können. Ausgehend von einem umfangreichen Korpus von Fotografien werden kommunikative Aufgaben rekonstruiert, die die Ausstellung mit Hilfe von Exponaten, Texten, Museumsarchitektur und Ausstellungsdesign löst.Der zweite Teil der Studie basiert auf Videoaufnahmen von authentischen Museumsbesuchen. Hier wird mit den Methoden der Gesprächsanalyse untersucht, wie Besucherinnen und Besucher das Kommunikationsangebot im Ausstellungsraum für die interaktive Konstruktion von Wissen nutzen. Analysiert wird speziell, wie sie mit ihrer Interaktion an das multimodale Kommunikationsangebot im Ausstellungsraum anknüpfen. Das erlaubt schließlich, die beiden analytischen Zugänge in einen übergeordneten theoretischen Rahmen zu integrieren.

Der Band enthält Beiträge, die auf der 4. Jahrestagung des Netzwerks 'Diskurs - interdisziplinär' 2014 gehalten wurden. Der Fokus der Beiträge ist auf Diskurs als ein semiotisches Kohärenzphänomen gerichtet. Komplexe von Zeichensystemen, die aufeinander verweisen und miteinander Sinn konstituieren, werden in ihrer diskursiven Geprägtheit beschrieben. Im Sinn einer Diskurssemiotik werden diskursive Kodierungen und ihre mutuellen Beziehungen als Bedeutung schaffende Instanzen dargestellt. Diese werden beispielhaft in Bereichen wie der Ess-, Körper-, Bild- und Filmsemiotik, der Semiotik der Kleidung und des Internets, der Raum- und der Geosemiotik sowie der Musiksemiotik exemplifiziert. Der Betrachtung des multimodalen Zusammenhangs von Text, Bild und Ton kommt dabei ein hoher Stellenwert zu. Damit präsentiert der Band Beispiele interdisziplinärer Ansätze und gibt den aktuellen Forschungsstand diskurssemiotischer Diskussionen wieder. This volume focusses on discourse as a semiotic coherence phenomenon. Mutually referential and constitutive complexes of sign systems are described in terms of their discursive elements. The authors develop a semiotics of discourse, one that regards encodings as instances that generate meaning. They examine a broad range of discursive formalizations, including their multimodal interconnections.

This book analyzes the complex interplay between gesture, speech and other modal resources (e.g., gaze, facial expression, motion) during the presentation of evidence and interpretation of testimony in court. By analyzing recordings of a well-known rape trial, the authors reveal how multimodal oratory contributes to forensic linguistics and gesture studies, and how it helps understand recent policy recommendations for reforming the rape trial.

The central question explored in this volume is: How is humor multimodally produced, perceived, responded to, and negotiated? To this end, it offers a panorama of linguistic research on multimodal and interactional humor, based on different theoretical frameworks, corpora, and methodologies. Humor is considered as an activity that is interactionally achieved, regardless of whether the interaction in which it is embedded is face-to-face, computer-mediated, with a human or a robot, oral or written. The aim is to analyze both the linguistic resources of the participants (such as their lexicon, prosody, gestures, gazes, or smiles) and the semiotic resources that social networks and instant messaging platforms offer them (such as memes, gifs, or emojis).

Si l’étude des composantes multimodales de la communication, déjà ancienne et repérable dans différents champs scientifiques, fournit aujourd’hui des cadres pertinents pour l’analyse de la production des significations sociales, de l’organisation de l’interaction et du partage des connaissances, cet ouvrage propose de les traiter dans leur rapport à la formation des professionnels en éducation. À partir d’études empiriques menées dans différents contextes éducatifs (milieu médico-éducatif, enseignement primaire et secondaire, formation professionnelle initiale et continue), et en s’appuyant sur la sémiotique sociale de Gunther Kress, il interroge les conditions méthodologiques dans lesquelles les pratiques éducatives mobilisant diverses ressources sémiotiques, comme le corps, l’espace, les objets et le langage, peuvent être observées et interprétées. Il questionne également la manière dont ces conditions d’observation et d’interprétation peuvent être réinvesties dans la formation aux métiers de l’éducation et appelle à une reconnaissance des pratiques multimodales dans la construction, la médiation ou l’appropriation des savoirs. Although the multimodal components of communication have been studied for some time in different scientific fields, and provide relevant frameworks for the analysis of social meaning, the organisation of interaction and knowledge sharing, this book looks at them in relation to the training of education professionals. It presents empirical studies in different educational contexts: special education; primary and secondary education; initial and continuing vocational training. Based on Gunther Kress’s social semiotic theory, it examines the methodological conditions in which educational practice which mobilises a variety of semiotic resources - gestuality, gaze, space, proxemy, artefacts and language – can be observed and interpreted.
