This book focuses primarily on the most efficient way to make an accurate FNA diagnosis of metastatic tumors within the broad confines of cytopathology. The text provides a step-by-step “thought process” during the diagnostic approach of the metastatic tumors using detailed algorithms. Starting from the onsite immediate FNA sample assessment, the book provides strategy of specimen triage to facilitate further cytology evaluation based on the metastatic patterns and morphologic patterns of the tumors. In the subsequent chapter, the book provides tips and traps of selecting markers and interpretation of immunoperoxidase, flow cytometric, cytogenetic and molecular studies. The book includes the strategy of dealing with limited FNA material and wisely use existing samples (cell block, direct smear, cytospin) for different ancillary studies including molecular tests that have been used at MD Anderson. The author highlights challenging issues to show the importance of using a multidisciplinary (clinical, radiologic, cytologic and ancillary studies) approach. Extensive illustrations are provided. Metastatic Neoplasms in Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology will provide pathology residents, fellows, practicing cytopathologists and cytotechnologists with a practical way to approach metastatic malignancies in daily cytology practice as well as provide a vision of the future of cytopathology.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary evidence-based management of urothelial carcinoma. The first part of the book is devoted to urothelial carcinoma of the bladder and includes detailed description of the diagnosis and treatment of non-muscle-invasive, muscle-invasive, and advanced or metastatic disease. Attention then turns to upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), with individual chapters on diagnosis, nephron-sparing surgery, nephroureterectomy, and treatment of advanced or metastatic UTUC. The text is supported by many illustrations, photos, and tables that clarify management, and surgical video clips are also available to readers. The book will be a welcome addition to the literature as progress continues to be made in understanding the exact pathophysiology of urothelial carcinoma and in developing more effective diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. It will be useful both to researchers in the field of urothelial carcinoma and to clinicians, including especially residents and fellows.

In this book, leading experts in cancer immunotherapy join forces to provide a comprehensive guide that sets out the main principles of oncoimmunology and examines the latest advances and their implications for clinical practice, focusing in particular on drugs with FDA/EMA approvals and breakthrough status. The aim is to deliver a landmark educational tool that will serve as the definitive reference for MD and PhD students while also meeting the needs of established researchers and healthcare professionals. Immunotherapy-based approaches are now inducing long-lasting clinical responses across multiple histological types of neoplasia, in previously difficult-to-treat metastatic cancers. The future challenges for oncologists are to understand and exploit the cellular and molecular components of complex immune networks, to optimize combinatorial regimens, to avoid immune-related side effects, and to plan immunomonitoring studies for biomarker discovery. The editors hope that this book will guide future and established health professionals toward the effective application of cancer immunology and immunotherapy and contribute significantly to further progress in the field.

This comprehensive reference expounds the current state of hormone therapy and castration resistance of prostate cancer (PCa). Previously, the incidence of PCa in Asian countries was relatively low, but it has been increasing dramatically in recent years. Although most of the new cases are diagnosed in early stages, a significant proportion of patients receive hormone therapy for metastatic disease or for relapse after local treatment. Thus the situation has gradually changed toward earlier and longer use of hormone therapy. The malignancy finally forms castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) despite the lack of testicular androgen. With advances in understanding of the molecular basis of hormone dependence and CRPC, many new androgen receptor-targeted agents have emerged. During the last decade, much evidence on hormone therapy has been accumulated in Japan. Interestingly, some of these findings are different from those reported from Western countries, suggesting ethnic variation in the outcome of hormone therapy. In the chapters of this book, expert authors provide exhaustive interpretations of the evidence recently reported from Japan and provide important Asian perspectives on hormone therapy for PCa. This work benefits not only Asian urologists but also their Western counterparts and all physicians and medical personnel who are involved in the treatment of PCa.

This book offers a selection of the critical current issues and challenges in head and neck cancer. It covers most key concepts of the subject, from diagnostic challenges to multidisciplinary decision-making aspects in head and neck oncology. Starting with the Make Sense Campaign and examining its impact on clinical practice, readers also gain insight into current and novel therapeutic approaches, including radiotherapy, cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, as well as the importance of adequate supportive care. Surgical interventions such as endoscopic surgery, salvage surgery, dentistry and implants are also discussed. Moreover, the changing respective roles of the involved caregivers are highlighted and extensively discussed. The chapters are based on the latest data presented at the 5th Trends in Head and Neck Oncology Conference and reflect the most up-to-date information in the field. Taking into account the ample current treatment options for patients with head and neck cancer and discussing side effects, survivorship issues and treatment in the elderly, this book provides and up-to-date coverage of all the critical topics in the field. Highlighting the increasing importance of decision-making in recurrent and metastatic head and neck cancer as well as quality of life and end of life issues, this reference book also emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach that plays such an important role in the outcome for this disease. Edited by a team of world leaders in Head and Neck Cancer this volume serves as an easy reference to the head and neck oncology practitioner and provides an up-to-date overview for specialists the field.

This text provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of this field, and serves as a valuable resource for clinicians, surgeons and researchers with an interest in thyroid cancer. The book reviews new data about molecular genetics and molecular diagnostic approaches, covers diagnosis and treatment of localized disease, and conventional and newer therapies for dealing with recurrent and metastatic disease. Areas of controversy, with expert opinions from both outlooks, are also covered. Management of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer serves as a very useful resource for physicians and researchers dealing with, and interested in, this challenging malignancy. It provides a concise yet comprehensive summary of the current status of the field that will help guide patient management and stimulate investigative efforts. All chapters are written by experts in their fields and include the most up-to-date scientific and clinical information.

This textbook summarizes the state of the art in the management of locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancer with the aim of providing the knowledge required for optimal treatment decision making in individual cases. Readers will find comprehensive coverage of the latest developments in surgery, radiotherapy, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. The role of the hormonal therapies abiraterone and enzalutamide and docetaxel-based chemotherapy in castration-resistant prostate cancer and hormone-sensitive metastatic disease is carefully evaluated. Among the other therapies discussed are LHRH agonists and antagonists, cabazitaxel, radium-223, and various novel agents still under clinical trials. The section on surgical approaches addresses, among other topics, the use of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy, and the benefits of adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapy. The current role of external beam radiotherapy, alone or in combination with ADT and brachytherapy, for locally advanced disease is reviewed. Management of Advanced Prostate Cancer will be a valuable resource for practitioners at all levels of expertise.
