The World Health Organization's guidelines provide a comprehensive approach to preventing the transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) from mother to child during pregnancy. The document emphasizes the importance of universal infant immunization and introduces antiviral prophylaxis as an additional measure. It highlights recent evidence supporting the efficacy of antiviral prophylaxis, particularly using tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), to reduce perinatal HBV transmission. The guidelines aim to achieve the global target of reducing HBV prevalence in children under five to less than 0.1% by 2030. Intended for healthcare policymakers and practitioners, the guidelines incorporate systematic reviews, expert opinions, and global health strategies to inform best practices.

This document, prepared by the World Health Organization, outlines the protocol for evaluating nucleic acid tests designed to quantitatively detect hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA. Aimed at Performance Evaluation Laboratories and in vitro diagnostics (IVD) manufacturers, it details the evaluation procedures necessary for WHO assessment. The protocol addresses various aspects including clinical and analytical performance evaluation, quality control, data analysis, and ethical compliance. The primary goal is to ensure that these tests meet WHO standards, particularly in resource-limited settings. The document serves as a guide for assessing test accuracy, precision, and operational efficiency, while also providing guidelines for specimen handling and data reporting.
