Coronary Heart Disease: Clinical, Pathological, Imaging, and Molecular Profiles presents a comprehensive picture of ischemic heart disease for practitioners, students, and investigators dealing with the varied facets of this complex subject. Individual chapters introduce the anatomy of the coronary blood vessels and cardiac development, while others consider current imaging modalities utilized for ischemic heart disease, including stress echo, nuclear diagnostic tests, non-invasive coronary artery imaging, and coronary angiography. Imaging chapters provide key clinical information on techniques and indications, and include examples of both normal and abnormal patterns. The principle thrust of the book concerns coronary atherosclerosis, the pathology of which is presented in conjunction with the results of anatomic, non-invasive imaging and angiographic studies. Related chapters cover atherogenesis, presenting new insights into the pathophysiology of the vulnerable plaque, the role of progenitor cells in vascular injury, inflammation and atherogenesis, and the genomics of vascular remodeling. Additional topics covered include angina pectoris, acute coronary syndromes, healed myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure, catheter-based and surgical revascularization, and surgical treatment of myocardial infarction and its sequelae. With contributions from a diverse group of internationally-known physicians with broad experience in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, this book will be a valuable resource for practitioners in clinical cardiology, thoracic surgery, pathology, and cardiovascular molecular research, as well as for students in training.

During the past decade, coronary radiology has undergone rapid development. This second edition of the only available monograph on the subject covers the full range of radiological modalities used to examine the coronary arteries and coronary vessel walls. Special emphasis is placed on the role of non-invasive techniques, which can supply information on the condition of the coronary arteries within one simple and short examination. The modalities considered in detail include CT angiography with multidetector and dual-source tomography, 2D and 3D visualization techniques, and MR coronary angiography. Invasive procedures are not neglected, however, and a separate section includes chapters on conventional catheterization, quantitative angiography, and intravascular and quantitative ultrasound. Besides the new acquisition technologies, the substantial improvements made by postprocessing software developers and novel indications for coronary imaging are discussed. A section devoted to coronary calcification clearly explains its development and the use of modern techniques in its visualization and quantification. Furthermore, the latest guidelines on acute chest pain and coronary calcification assessment, written by the key international authorities in the field, are discussed. This important book illustrates how coronary imaging is moving in a direction that will permit the non-invasive acquisition of detailed information on the condition of the coronary arteries in patients worldwide. The text is supported by a large number of high-quality color images of the coronary and cardiac anatomy.

Three-dimensional echocardiography is the most recent fundamental advancement in echocardiography with a strong impact on almost all clinical and research applications of echocardiography. After a very successful 1st edition, this book presents the fully revised 2nd edition. Accounting for the marked progress of real-time 3D echocardiography since the 1st edition it covers all clinically important aspects of this fascinating new technology, including a comprehensive explanation of its basic principles, practical aspects of clinical application, new recommendations in recent guidelines, and detailed descriptions of specific uses in the broad spectrum of clinically important heart disease. The book was written by a group of well-recognized international experts in the field, who have not only been involved in scientific and clinical evolution of 3D echocardiography since its beginnings but are also intensely involved in expert training courses. As a result, the clear focus of this book is on the practical application of 3D echocardiography in daily clinical routine with tips and tricks for both beginners and experts, all accompanied by more than 150 case examples comprehensively illustrated with more than 850 images and more than 500 videos available on a DVD. In concert with an in-depth review and comprehensive update of the most recent literature on real-time 3D echocardiography, this book continues to represent an invaluable reference on 3D echocardiography for beginners and expert users.

Over past two decades, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has come to occupy an ever more important place in the assessment and management of patients with congenital heart defects (CHD) and other cardiovascular disorders. It offers an ever-expanding amount of information about the heart and circulation, provides outstanding images of cardiovascular morphology and function, is increasingly being used to detect pathologic fibrosis, and has an expanding role in the assessment of myocardial viability. Despite its impressive clinical performance, its limitations and weaknesses also need to be clearly understood. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Congenital Heart Disease is an excellent foundation for any reader not familiar with the field whether they are imagers or clinicians who deal with cardiovascular disease. It also describes the technical details of MRI techniques to help the clinician understand the most important elements of CMR in assessing and managing their patients. In creating the book, the editors have assembled a world-renowned panel of contributors to review the use of CMR in CHD and make it accessible to those working in the field and to those who use the information derived from CMR in their clinical practice.
