Abstract

The aim of the publication "Selected problems of thanatology" is to point out to the issues of death and dying, which are - in addition to the strong taboo - subject to many mistaken beliefs. From a psychological point of view it discusses the death concept in children during ontogenesis. Following chapters are dedicated to neglect of the needs of the sick and dying who, due to lack of information, ignorance and unwillingness of their surroundings, are dying without the control of symptoms and saturation of somatic, psychological and spiritual needs. The lack of knowledge has consequences for the mourning process in which subjects often experience complications, pathology that are not identified and are left without professional intervention. The publication is primarily intended for students of psychology programs; however, it can enrich all helping professions.

Abstract

The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia (HCS) continued monitoring the prison system reforms in 2015, i.e. the reform of the institutions for the enforcement of criminal sanctions in Serbia. The project entitled "Continued monitoring of the prison system reforms" was supported by the Civil Rights Defenders. Visits to the institutions for the enforcement of criminal sanctions and offices for alternative sanctions were accomplished with the permission and support of the Ministry of Justice and the Directorate for Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions, while the visits to the detainment units were accomplished with the license and support of the presidents of higher courts with jurisdictions over the territory in which they are located. The expert team performing the monitoring of the institutions for the enforcement of criminal sanctions comprised the lawyers from the Helsinki Committee, Ljiljana Palibrk and Jelena Mirkov, full-time professor at the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation Dr Zoran Ilić and a specialist of general practice medicine, Dr Aleksandra Bezarević. During the project that took part in the second half of the 2014, the Helsinki Committee team visited six institutions in the competence of the Directorate for Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions at the Ministry of Justice: five penitentiaries (in Niš, Sremska Mitrovica, Zabela, Požarevac and Valjevo) and Special Prison Hospital in Belgrade. In addition, Offices for Alternative Sanctions in these cities were also visited. The continuation of the project in 2015 encompassed visits to seven district prisons in Subotica, Kragujevac, Belgrade, Zrenjanin, Novi Sad, Smederevo and Pančevo and two visits to penitentiaries in Sombor and Padinska Skela. Abstract

The publication describes the research on the attitudes of the teachers of health education or an equivalent course in lower secondary schools. In the theoretical part the issue is explained in a broader context. The types of eating disorders and the factors that contribute to the development of these disorders in childhood and adolescence are described. The following section explains the prevention of risk behaviour with a focus on the role of the school and teachers in the primary prevention of eating disorders. The publication describes how teachers can identify eating disorders and suggests their appropriate behaviour towards children with a suspected eating disorder. The book also focuses on the issue of attitudes. The text refers to relevant domestic and international research studies that illustrate the current state of the issue. The theoretical part of the publication defines the research problem, which is to identify the teachers' attitudes to eating disorders. The main research method is the semantic differential applied on a sample of 166 elementary school teachers from various regions of the Czech Republic. The additional method is the semi-structured interview conducted with some teachers from the research sample. The core focus of the publication is the new knowledge concerning the attitudes of elementary school teachers to eating disorders. The results are analysed in terms of the teachers' qualification, gender, age, and length of teaching experience. The final part of the paper summarizes the most important findings and recommendations for the prevention of eating disorders in educational practice. The new findings can also be applied in foreign educational systems.
