Computer-assisted systems have long since penetrated the operating room. Their functions include pre and intraoperative imaging, image processing, modeling, simulation, navigation, and robotics. Computers help run the "surgical cockpit." They are critical in pre- and intraoperative process optimization, workflow management, and for information integration in the surgical suite. Was steckt hinter diesen Begriffen? Ändert sich durch diese Entwicklungen das Berufsbild des Chirurgen? Welche ökonomischen, rechtlichen und ethischen Aspekte sind zu beachten? Ausgewiesene Experten geben in diesem Buch Antworten auf diese Fragen.

Despite the high precision of laser, it remains challenging to control the laser-bone ablation without injuring the underlying critical structures. Providing an axial resolution on micrometre scale, OCT is a promising candidate for imaging microstructures beneath the bone surface and monitoring the ablation process. In this work, a bridge connecting these two technologies is established. A closed-loop control of laser-bone ablation under the monitoring with OCT has been successfully realised.

Advancements in digital technologies are reshaping the world of dentistry, from prosthodontics to implant dentistry. Intraoral scanners, facial scanners, 3D printers, and milling machines have revolutionized the clinical approach and operative workflow in daily practice. However, digital dentistry brings several challenges to clinicians due to the rapid evolution of new technologies and the lack of evidence-based guidelines for their correct use. The aim of this Special Issue is to cover the latest advances in the development and application of digital technologies in prosthetic and implant dentistry. We wish to provide both clinicians and researchers with a comprehensive and up-to-date source of information on current trends, limitations, and potential future applications of digital technologies in daily clinical practice.

This book presents a practical approach for the use of imaging across a wide variety of cardiovascular procedures. The use of catheter-based therapies is a rapidly expanding discipline for the minimally invasive treatment of many cardiac diseases. Cardiac ultrasound, particularly echocardiography, is utilized extensively to guide these therapies. This text teaches the key knowledge required for the use of ultrasound in many catheter- based cardiac therapies. In addition to the newest techniques such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement and transcatheter mitral valve edge-to-edge repair, it also includes guidance on more established procedures such as pericardiocentesis. Intraprocedural Imaging of Cardiovascular Interventions is an essential resource for clinicians and interventionalists to aid their understanding of imaging needs during various cardiovascular procedures. .

Endoscopic/ laparoscopic extraperitoneal radical prostatectomy (EERPE) has become established as a therapeutic option for localized prostate cancer. This book is an atlas, not a conventional textbook. Its main goal is to guide the urologist step by step through EERPE, aiming to make this highly standardized technique reproducible. Every stage of the procedure is presented with numerous endoscopic images and diagrams so that the reader can fully comprehend the different surgical steps. Complications and their management are described in detail. Special chapters are devoted to the anatomy of the prostate, anesthesiological considerations, and postoperative management and training.

Robotic Donor Nephrectomy - A Practical Guide is a user friendly manual aimed to give both novice and mature urologists a clear and comprehensive description of robot-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy through a step-by-step approach. Novel techniques such as the Laparo-Endoscopic Single-Site (LESS) surgery are examined and the editors also look at the well established multi-ports techniques using the da Vinci Surgical system. Robotic Donor Nephrectomy - A Practical Guide will help young urologists gain better understanding of the techniques of robotic-assisted surgery, and support older urologists in ’crossing the border’ towards laparoscopic surgery, particularly for delicate procedures such as the donor nephrectomy.
