Het cahier 01 — samengesteld door Steven Humblet — spitst zich toe op het fotoboek van het interbellum. Met het cahier wil de onderzoeksgroep fotografie van de Hogeschool Sint-Lukas Brussel haar onderzoek in een bredere internationale context plaatsen. Jaarlijks krijgt een gastredacteur de kans om internationaal gerenommeerde auteurs en fotografen rond zich te verzamelen om het eigen onderzoek te verdiepen en te verrijken.Het eerste nummer blikt terug op dat cruciale moment waarop het fotografische beeld tijdens het interbellum de ruimte van het tijdschrift en het boek betreedt. Aan zes specialisten werd gevraagd om vanuit hun vertrouwdheid met een aantal specifieke fotoboeken hun licht te werpen op mogelijke betekenissen van het boek voor het (fotografische) beeld.

Since the early 19th century and the invention of photography, artists have been experimenting with various methods for creating photographs without a camera. At once exhaustive and compelling, this book reveals the myriad approaches artists have used to create photographic images using just paper and a source of radiation. Simultaneously a chronological history and a thematic study, this book explores a range of practices, some of which have been in use for more than a century, while others are entirely contemporary.
