It is the year 2015 and former businessman Donald Trump has announced his candidacy to the US presidential elections. The same year, one man predicted Trump would become President, at a time many people believed he only announced as a joke. To him, Donald Trump was a master persuader, someone who had mastered a set of communication assets that made him a candidate to be reckoned with in the presidential race. In our work, we take a closer look at his claim and we expand on his original theory.

Since Donald Trump came to power in 2017, the debate about the consequences of mis- and disinformation on social media has continued to grow. This thesis aims to discuss the impact of online mis- and disinformation on American democracy with the help of a case study of Donald Trump’s tweets between 3 November 2020, which was the day of the election, and 6 January 2021, which was the day of the Capitol storming. This thesis presents four mechanisms that show how Trump’s mis- and disinformation tweets contributed to the assault on the U.S. Capitol. First, online polarisation, second, the spread of mis- and disinformation on Twitter, third, Donald Trump core supporters’ news ecosystem, finally, Trump’s rhetoric on Twitter. The findings contribute to the building of the theory according to which mis- and disinformation represent a threat to democracy.

Since Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign launched on June 16, 2015, the debate on gun control has been more than ever emphasized. As a result, Trump created a quarrel between American citizens regarding the bearing of arms. This dissertation represents an answer to how Donald Trump drove his communication regarding firearms policy on his Twitter account during his first presidential campaign against Hillary Clinton and his second presidential campaign against Joe Biden. This work will be divided into three parts. First, a historical context of the Second Amendment of the United States with fundamental facts to know; second, a quantitative analysis of the tweets; and finally, a pure analysis of Trump’s communication strategies on Twitter in this context.

This book offers the first transnational history of white nationalism in Britain, the US and the formerly British colonies of Rhodesia, South Africa and Australia from the post-World War II period to the present. It situates contemporary white nationalism in the 'Anglosphere' within the context of major global events since 1945. White nationalism, it argues, became more global in reaction to the forces of decolonisation, civil rights, mass migration and the rise of international institutions. In this period, assumptions of white supremacy that had been widely held by whites throughout the world were challenged and reformulated, as western elites professed a commitment to colour-blind ideals. The decline in legitimacy of overtly racist political expression produced international alliances among white supremacists and new claims of populist legitimation.
