"Alejandro de la Sota (1913-1996) probably arouses more impassioned responses in Spain than any other modern Spanish architect. His work is the subject of pilgrimages by architects and students looking for a unique way of working, an encounter with an almost magical revelation. Although he is a very well-known modern master in Spain, his is quite unknown abroad. This 2G issue presents a selection of building and projects of this forgotten modern master, from his first works built after the Spanish Civil War, as Esquivel village, to his master pieces, like the Maravillas school sports hall and the Provincial Government Building in Tarragona, and his later, not so known works as the Post Office building in León or the unbuilt houses by the see in Mallorca. - éditeur"

"Architects reveal the keys to architecture in their drawings, their floor plans, sections and also in their writings. It is important to appreciate the concise texts of Mies Van der Rohe or the more passionate expressions of Le Corbusier. And that is how I would like these texts, published here today, to be understood. Alberto Campo Baeza (born Valladolid, Spain, 1946) is one of the most important architects of the modern period. The Built Idea presents a series of seminal texts in which he conveys his most deeply-held architectural ideas and convictions, exploring and explaining his foundational influences and subjects such as the importance of light, the work of his contemporaries, and the future of architecture, as well as accounts of his own work and personal anecdotes from a rich and successful life in architecture. Usually associated with Mies and Le Corbusier, the Modern Movement was instrumental in advancing new technologies of construction in architecture, including the use of glass, steel, and reinforced concrete. Renowned historian Kenneth Frampton offers a bold look at this crucial period, focusing on architects less commonly associated with the movement in order to reveal the breadth and complexity of architectural modernism. The Other Modern Movement profiles nineteen architects, each of whom consciously contributed to the evolution of a new architectural typology through a key work realized between 1922 and 1962.0 0Frampton?s account offers new insights into iconic buildings like Eileen Gray?s E-1027 House in France and Richard Neutra?s Kaufmann House in Palm Springs, California, as well as lesser-known works such as Antonin Raymond?s Tokyo Golf Club and Alejandro de la Sota?s Maravillas School Gymnasium in Madrid. Foregrounding the ways that these diverse projects employed progressive models, advanced new methods in construction techniques, and displayed a new sociocultural awareness, Frampton shines a light on the rich legacy of the Modern Movement and the enduring potential of the unfinished modernist project.
