Abstract

La révolution numérique a considérablement changé notre rapport à l’information et mis en question la place des médias dans la société. En parallèle à la chute de la vente des journaux papiers, de nouvelles offres médiatiques gratuites se sont développées sur Internet (les pure players), tirant parti des outils qu’offre le numérique afin de développer des audiences spectaculaires. À l’ère des Big Data, de nombreuses sociétés misent sur l’exploitation algorithmique des données numériques en vue d’affiner leurs produits et de les adapter à une demande toujours plus ciblée. Plusieurs entreprises médiatiques comme Melty, pure player d’infodivertissement péjorativement qualifié de « ferme de contenus », vont surfer sur cette tendance afin d’offrir une information taillée sur mesure pour les millennials. En rationalisant la production continue de nombreux articles courts et traitant des sujets « futiles », Melty va développer un très large lectorat âgé entre 15 et 30 ans qu’il s’agit de plonger dans une bulle informationnelle bienveillante et engageante, afin d’optimiser la réussite des nombreuses offres publicitaires (parfois sous forme de native advertising) présentes sur le site. L’attention est traitée par ces sites comme une ressource rare au sein d’un marché dans lequel l’offre est surabondante et le temps d’attention du consommateur toujours plus limité (le concept d’économie de l’attention développé par Yves Citton). En détectant à l’aide des algorithmes les sujets les plus susceptibles d’attirer un maximum d’attention à un temps T auprès d’un public cible, Melty cherche à maximiser son trafic et donc les revenus publicitaires. Mais les contraintes liées aux exigences du référencement (SEO) et à l’assistance algorithmique des choix éditoriaux vont réduire la liberté d'exécution des journalistes et la possibilité de développer des récits de qualité, développés sur le long-terme. Ce travail cherche à exposer, à travers le cas Melty, les conséquences néfastes de cette lutte pour l’attention sur la qualité et la diversité des productions journalistiques qui bénéficient de visibilité sur le Web.

Abstract

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with transportation activities account for approximately 20 percent of all carbon dioxide (co2) emissions globally, making the transportation sector a major contributor to the current global warming. This book focuses on the latest advances in technologies aiming at the sustainable future transportation of people and goods. A reduction in burning fossil fuel and technological transitions are the main approaches toward sustainable future transportation. Particular attention is given to automobile technological transitions, bike sharing systems, supply chain digitalization, and transport performance monitoring and optimization, among others.
