Abstract

Ce dictionnaire biographique est consacré aux 387 officiers d'administration du Service de santé, d'active et de réserve, morts aux armées ou victimes du devoir, depuis la création du corps en 1824. Le tribut payé par le corps aux maladies épidémiques au cours des campagnes coloniales, en Algérie notamment, est très important et méconnu. Les expéditions et guerres auxquelles ils ont participé couvrent l'histoire militaire des 19e et 20e siècles dans les pays les plus variés : Espagne, Algérie, Crimée, Mexique, Chine, Indochine, Madagascar, Maroc. Les deux guerres mondiales occupent une place essentielle : la première par le nombre des morts, la seconde par les services exceptionnels des officiers d'administration du corps, engagés dans la Résistance, qui sont morts en déportation. La trace des agents des hôpitaux militaires, morts aux armées ou victimes du devoir, corps dont est issu celui des officiers d'administration des hôpitaux, devenu corps des officiers d'administration du Service de santé, sera conservée par cet ouvrage. Ses pertes furent considérables : 421 morts de 1800 à 1824, recensés pour la première fois. (annexe 5)
