Die neue Dauerausstellung »Weltsicht und Wissen um 1600« im Georgenbau des Dresdener Residenzschlosses veranschaulicht die Vielfalt des Phänomens »Kunstkammer« anhand von Kunstwerken und Sammlungsobjekten aus dem Besitz der sächsischen Kurfürsten. Sieben Räume sind einzelnen Themen gewidmet, welche die Sammellust eines Fürstenhauses der Spätrenaissance illustrieren. Dieses Themenheft präsentiert stellvertretend für jeden Raum ein spezifisches Kunstwerk oder eine Werkgruppe und soll damit die Neugier auf jene faszinierende Welt des Sammelns im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert wecken.

Nature can be collected in many forms and shapes: live animals have been locked up in cages, displayed in zoos and menageries and their hides and dried body parts have been used as part of installations in galleries and studies. Plants from far-away countries have been cultivated in botanical gardens and in hothouses.
