This work provides the legal framework in which the Venetian book trade operated in the years 1527-1565. The repertoire documents the systematic use that authors and printers made of the privileges system to ensure exclusivity in the economic exploitation of a work and thus protect their work and investments. The archival and bibliographic sources collected in this volume testify to the entrepreneurial strategies implemented by authors and printers to innovate and diversify publishing production in order to create products capable of competing on foreign markets. The repertoire also traces the role of the Venetian State in promoting and protecting the local book industry in a context characterized by constant historical and political changes. Questa opera fornisce il quadro giuridico in cui operò il commercio librario veneziano negli anni 1527-1565. Il repertorio documenta il sistematico uso che autori e stampatori fecero del sistema dei privilegi per assicurarsi l’esclusività nello sfruttamento economico di un’opera e proteggere così il proprio lavoro e i propri investimenti. Le fonti archivistiche e bibliografiche raccolte in questo volume testimoniano le strategie imprenditoriali messe in atto da autori e stampatori per innovare e diversificare la produzione editoriale allo scopo di creare prodotti capaci di competere sui mercati esteri. Il repertorio traccia inoltre il ruolo dello Stato veneziano nel promuovere e proteggere l’industria libraria locale in un contesto caratterizzato da continui cambiamenti storici e politici.

Für die Welt des Buches bedeutete die nationalsozialistische „Machtergreifung" 1933 einen tiefen Einschnitt: Mehrere hundert Antiquare, Buchhändler und Verleger – unter ihnen mit die bedeutendsten Vertreter ihrer Sparte – wurden das Opfer politischer und rassistischer Verfolgung; sie mussten ihre Firmen schließen oder zur „Arisierung" freigeben, bevor sie in verschiedenste Länder und Erdteile flüchteten. Das Handbuch geht in rund 900 biographischen Einträgen den Lebensspuren dieser Menschen nach und eröffnet den Blick auf einen Bereich der Hitleremigration, der bislang nur bruchstückhaft wahrgenommen worden ist. Ausgrenzung und Verfolgung, Flucht und Asyl, Scheitern und Erfolg beim Versuch der Neuetablierung, nicht zuletzt auch die internationale Wirkungsgeschichte dieser Emigration nach 1945 sind Themen, die in dieser Dokumentation von Lebensschicksalen greifbar werden. In der vorliegenden zweiten, aktualisierten und erweiterten Auflage erscheint das Handbuch im Verbund mit Band 3/3 der „Geschichte des deutschen Buchhandels im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert" und ergänzt mit den in ihm enthaltenen biographischen Informationen die Darstellung von Verlag und Buchhandel im deutschsprachigen Exil 1933-1945. Several hundred antiquarians, booksellers and publishers were victims of political and racist persecution after the Nazis took power in 1933. They were forced to close their businesses or permit them to be “aryanized” before they fled the country. With over 900 entries, this handbook explores these peoples' lives to provide new insights into this neglected area of émigré studies.
