Seghers behoort tot de meest gezochte schilders van zijn tijd. Het bloemstuk in al zijn vormen was zijn specialiteit. In de glazen vaas op dit klein stilleven weerspiegelt zich de ruit van Seghers’ atelier. Op uiterst delicate wijze stelde Seghers een boeket samen met een gele roos, een koolroos, een witte roos, een hyacint, lissen en een tulp. Een dergelijk schilderij werd aanzien als een statussymbool en als een gegeerd verzamelobject. Net als een echte ruiker werden ze ook als relatiegeschenk aangeboden.
