Abstract

Conversation in the theatrical break is traditionally associated with the ideal of a public which, inspired by the previous stage experience, rhetorically skillfully communicates about aesthetic and socio-political issues. On the other hand, it is assumed from a critical perspective that such conversations primarily served social distinction, with a banal content. This study empirically reconstructs the practices characteristic of such situations between art communication and recreation, sociability and informal learning on a conversational basis.

Abstract

Issues in the public presentation and interpretation of the archaeology of Hadrian's Wall and other frontiers of the Roman Empire are explored and addressed here. A central theme is the need for interpretation to be people-focussed, and for visitors to be engaged through narratives and approaches which help them connect with figures in the past: daily life, relationships, craft skills, communications, resonances with modern frontiers and modern issues all provide means of helping an audience to connect, delivering a greater understanding, better visitor experiences, increased visiting and spend, and an enhanced awareness of the need to protect and conserve our heritage. Topics covered include re-enactment, virtual and physical reconstruction, multi-media, smartphones, interpretation planning and design; while new evidence from audience research is also presented to show how visitors respond to different strategies of engagement. Emerging challenges related to socio-demographics and economics require new approaches for academics, politicians, hospital management, clinical staff, public institutions, and firms doing business in the healthcare industries. This book provides valuable insights for understanding modern and complex healthcare market configurations in Europe. Taking a unique cross-country perspective the authors figure out critical success factors for relevant stakeholders. Mario Glowik is Professor of International Strategic Management at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Freie Universität Berlin in Germany and gained his habilitation (post-doctoral qualification) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria. Slawomir Smyczek is Marketing Professor at the University of Economics in Katowice (Poland), where he earned his Ph.D. In 2010, the Polish Prime Minister awarded his habilitation thesis as the best in the field of economics in the entire country.
