Draws on in-depth interviews with residents, family members, staff, and administrators of six different types of assisted living residence. An appendix describes the qualitative research process used by a collaborative research team of the Univ. of Maryland Baltimore County's Center for Aging Studies. "Transitions from assisted living: sociocultural aspect," funded by the National Institute on Aging, was designed to provide an understanding of the minor and major life transitions experienced by residents in assisted living. -- Cover, p.4.

Assisted living, the fastest growing residential option, burst upon the American landscape in the late 1980's. These facilities serve persons who no longer are able to live independently and need help with the activities of daily living, but do not need 24-hour nursing care. James Allen has updated and refined this second edition of Assisted Living Administration to include new information on the Senate Aging Taskforce report of 2003, and the financial shape of the industry. The volume also covers resident care issues, aging theories, as well as new industry data. This volume is intended as a

Real-world systems exhibit complex behavior, therefore novel mathematical approaches or modifications of classical ones have to be employed to precisely predict, monitor, and control complicated chaotic and stochastic processes. One of the most basic concepts that has to be taken into account while conducting research in all natural sciences is symmetry, and it is usually used to refer to an object that is invariant under some transformations including translation, reflection, rotation or scaling. The following Special Issue is dedicated to investigations of the concept of dynamical symmetry in the modelling and analysis of dynamic features occurring in various branches of science like physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering, with special emphasis on research based on the mathematical models of nonlinear partial and ordinary differential equations. Addressed topics cover theories developed and employed under the concept of invariance of the global/local behavior of the points of spacetime, including temporal/spatiotemporal symmetries.
