Het boek behandelt in het eerste deel de anatomie en fysiologie van de mens. Na de opbouw van cellen en de verdeling in weefsels en organen besproken te hebben, komen de verschillende orgaansystemen aan de orde. Apart aandacht wordt besteed aan bijv. voedsel en temperatuurregulatie. In het tweede deel wordt de pathologie besproken. Algemene hoofdstukken handelen over o.a. bacterie͏̈n, tumoren, traumata, maar ook over bijv. decubitus en geneesmiddelbijwerkingen. Vervolgens komen in de speciale pathologie aandoeningen van verschillende orgaansystemen ter sprake. Een register besluit het boek. Herdruk van een uitgave, die de auteur (arts) in eerste instantie bedoeld had als een leerboek t.b.v. de opleiding tot ziekenverzorgende, hoewel het later in bredere kring toegepast werd en nu hiervoor aangepast is. (flaptekst:) Vorm en beweging is hét leerboek over het bewegingsapparaat voor de studie geneeskunde en overige (para)medische opleidingen. Dit fraaie boek valt op door zijn helder geschreven tekst en de grote hoeveelheid anatomische tekeningen. Niet voor niets wordt Vorm en beweging al bijna veertig jaar door vele opleidingen gebruikt als het studieboek op het gebied van de functionele anatomie van het menselijk bewegingsapparaat. Deze tiende druk is op een aantal punten herzien. De tekst en illustraties zijn, op een enkele uitzondering na, aangepast aan de Terminologica Anatomica (1998). In de zogenoemde 'klinische notities' wordt toegelicht hoe kennis van de anatomie bijdraagt aan een goed inzicht in de afwijkingen, letsels en ziekten van het bewegingsapparaat. In deze editie zijn twaalf nieuwe notities en zes nieuwe tekeningen toegevoegd. Daarmee is het boek weer volledig up to date en past ook deze tiende druk van Vorm en beweging uitstekend in het huidige onderwijssysteem van de medische en paramedische opleidingen in Nederland.

The 6th edition of Wolf-Heidegger's Atlas of Human Anatomy has been further revised, expanded and updated by Professor Petra Köpf-Maier. A well-established classic, the atlas has been renowned for the high quality of its illustrations since its inception; the more recent editions, however, have also received praise for their didactic structure and clinical approach. All illustrations are in color and are complemented in a highly instructive manner by a generous number of anatomical sections and selected radiological images (ultrasound, CT scans, MRIs). Placing these side by side serves to develop and train the skills needed to interpret these images correctly. New clinically relevant illustrations have been included and are shown within their practical context, ranging from herniated disks and paralysis symptoms to the consequences of a stenosed portal vein. Furthermore, the chapter on head and neck anatomy, which is of specific interest to dental students, has been enlarged. The atlas employs the current Terminologia Anatomica and introduces the most important eponyms, since they form an important part of daily clinical communication. Wolf-Heidegger's Atlas of Human Anatomy has been designed and crafted explicitly for students of human medicine and dentistry in their preclinical and clinical years, but will also appeal to clinical practitioners, who will appreciate the illustrations' superb quality and beauty as well as their continuing relevance to daily practical decision-taking.
