Open Engineering is a company active in computer-assisted engineering. Recently, the company has developed new digital simulation capabilities related to optics. In order to evaluate the potential and the possible opportunities that this new know-how can bring to the company, this thesis has been the subject of strategic marketing analysis. The goal was to answer the following managerial questions: Should the prototype be further developed? if so, which developments are the most profitable to achieve? To do so, it was first necessary to identify the market. By consulting research publications for the field of aero-optical effects, we have identified the actors potentially interested in the technology developed by the company. As these players expressed different needs, we divided the market into three homogeneous segments, under the criterion of the desired benefits. This segmentation was made possible thanks to a market research that was conducted via an online questionnaire, sent to all the identified population. Two of the segments are from the aerospace and the defense sectors, the third is from the aerospace and astronomy sectors. In order to determine the most interesting offer to develop to meet the needs of the market, we then analyzed the attractiveness of the segments and the competitiveness of the company. We therefore quantified the financial potentials of the segments, determined the macroeconomic factors that could attest to the health of the segments in the long term. Finally, we determined the possible politico-legal barriers to entry into the segments. Then we broke down the company's production line to determine its strengths. Based on the results of these analyses, it was determined that the best strategy for the company was to meet the demand of the third segment, positioning itself as substitutes, with a cheaper product. To ensure the sustainability of the project, it is recommended that the company gradually target the second and then the first segment. The company could then benefit from a competitive advantage through attribute differentiation

Fan engines are widely used in the aeronautical industry especially for ventilation applica- tions. However, this component generates a lot of flow-induced noise that has to be reduced to not alter the comfort of the users. In this context, this master thesis has been proposed by GDTech Engineering at the request of BaByliss in order to study the propagation of aero- acoustic sources in a hair dryer and to find solutions for noise attenuation. To do so, a preliminary study of a point source propagation inside a rigid cylinder is carried out. This set-up makes it possible to tame the Actran software through the highlight of resonance phenomenon and the analysis of propagation modes. From parameters influence studies, it is shown that only the internal cylinder of the geometry is important, indicating that the whole hair dryer study can be realised on a simple cylinder. Lighthill analogy is then implemented based on computational fluid dynamic results for the engine inside the cylinder. The ICFD module is used to obtain the aero-acoustic surface and volume sources of noise. On one hand, the surface results show dipole distributions as a consequence of rotor-stator interaction at the harmonics of the rotor rotation speed and on the other hand, volume source linked to turbulence effects are especially marked at the blade passing frequency. The resulting sound pressure level is therefore important at all the rotor rotation speed frequency harmonics. However, these results are biased by an important numerical error. The main objective is then to passively attenuate these peaks. Four methods are implemented based on absorbers and metamaterials. It is shown that adding a porous lining in the hair dryer casing can create a broad attenuation at high frequencies. Micro-perforated panels are also designed at the blade passing frequency but these present poorer performance. The combination of both, i.e. micro-perforated panels backed by a porous material, is the most efficient solution in the present case, creating a broad attenuation even more significant at the blade passing frequency. Finally, a helical metamaterial is presented to attenuate a specific lower frequency. Even if one design is shown to be satisfying, the limitations of this solution are highlighted.

The recent implementation of wear models in the nonlinear solver LS-Dyna allows its use in the numerical simulation of Rotor-Stator Interaction for the very first time. The new capabilities of the solver are studied and are compared to the ones of nonlinear solver Metafor, already capable of simulating Rotor-Stator Interaction. Specifically, the feasibility of such simulations is studied, the best suited contact algorithms are selected, and the performance is assessed. To that end, two LS-Dyna models are developed: a basic ONERA test bench whose purpose is to select the most adequate contact models, and a compressor blade rub test whose purpose is to ensure the correct application of wear on the finite elements model. The choice of contact model is constrained by the limited support of wear in the solver. Penalty methods for contact were considered, double-pass algorithms were rejected due to high variation of contact loads, leaving single-pass algorithms. The penalty computation was selected to ensure the least dependence on the mesh. Soft constraint formulation is not fully independent of the mesh, but offers nodal mass normalization. The specificity of wear computation in LS-Dyna is its application in post-processing only, preventing wear affecting the compressor blade dynamics. The simulation of Rotor-Stator Interaction in LS-Dyna thus necessitates extensive use of computation stops and restarts. A fully functional method to compute Rotor-Stator Interaction was successfully developed for LS-Dyna, with performance similar to Metafor.
