Pour comprendre et éviter le piège de l'essentialisation et du culturalisme, une comparaison avec d'autres pays, notamment la mafia née en Sicile, permet de dégager des éléments communs, mais aussi de mettre à jour la spécificité de la pègre japonaise : sa proximité avec l'extrême droite, dans l'idéologie comme dans l'action.
