Since the highly praised first edition of Surgical Disorders of the Peripheral Nerves was published in 1998, greater understanding of the the molecular and cellular events which underlie the response of nerves to injury, regeneration and neuropathic pain has been achieved. This second edition has been fully updated in line with new clinical knowledge, and also incorporates the extensive study of thousands of surgical case studies spanning repairs of the supraclavicular plexus in the adult, the birth lesion of the brachial plexus, compound nerve injury and iatrogenous injury. Beginning with the fundamentals of the anatomy and function of the peripheral nervous system, and working its way through various types of injury, operative methods, the regeneration and recovery of nerves, surgical reconstruction, pain, and rehabilitation, this eloquently written work provides the reader with the solid understanding required to successfully perform surgery on the peripheral nervous system. Dr Shelagh Smith, joined by Dr Ravi Knight, has rewritten the chapter Electrodiagnosis. Professor Tara Renton has written a new chapter on injuries to the trigeminal nerve in maxilla-facial and dental work. The drawings, by Mr Philip Wilson, are new. Most of the 700 illustrations are also new. This thorough and authoritative look at the surgical treatment of the peripheral nerves is fully illustrated throughout with exquisite line diagrams and clear, instructive photographs.

Complex abdominal wall hernias and complex abdominal wall defects, including stomas or the complications associated with any of the above, are common and challenging for surgeons. The lack of high quality evidence leaves surgeons without clear guidance regarding the selection of technique or material to be used when treating these serious problem. Surgery of Complex Abdominal Wall Defects has been written to provide this guidance. It covers the surgical anatomy of the abdominal wall, pathology of abdominal wall defects, such as hernias, enterocutaneous or entero-atmospheric fistulae, indications for, and surgical techniques used to, reconstruct the abdominal wall. In addition, through a number of illustrations, the placement of mesh in the abdominal wall reconstruction, as well as manipulations of patient’s tissue including lateral compartment release techniques and other tissue transfer techniques are described in detail. The text also covers reconstruction of complex contaminated abdominal wall defects in patients with complex enteric fistulae; ostomies, defects created after the excision of previously placed infected prosthetic mesh, and defects associated with acute tissue loss after severe trauma or necrosis of abdominal wall such as necrotizing soft tissue infections. Complex abdominal wall defects in pediatric population and long-term outcomes and durability of these repairs are also addressed. Surgery of Complex Abdominal Wall Defects is written by experts in their respective areas from around the world. It will serve as a guide for current practice for surgeons, including general, trauma, acute care, plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

Patellar Instability Surgery in Clinical Practice analyses in a step by step format, the different reconstruction techniques for the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction as well as other techniques less frequently used in the patient with lateral patellofemoral instability. also the treatment of medial patellofemoral instability is also explained. Patellar Instability surgery is a very practical book, aimed at junior and general orthopedic surgeon who require a useful easy reference for these common knee procedures but will also be of great interest to those surgeons who specialized in knee surgery.

Orthopedics of the Upper and Lower Limb has been written to serve as a general introduction to the field of orthopedics and trauma for the regions of the upper and lower limb. It is composed of a number of commonly seen disorders and with a corresponding therapeutic pathway, clearly explained with numerous x-rays and diagrams to aid the reader in their understanding of these useful procedures. The book is intended as a basic resource for trainees and junior surgeons, but will also be useful to more experienced specialists who require an easy to follow clinical guide to assist in day to day practice of orthopedic and trauma disorders of the upper and lower limb.

This manual provides a practical approach to operative trauma management. Written entirely by physicians who care for critically injured patients every day, the manual features a practical hands on approach to operative trauma care that represents the principles used by the faculty at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Maryland. The book contains innumerable practical tips and surgical pearls. It is presented in a manual format so that it fits easily into a white coat pocket, making it a portable and readily accessible reference. The Shock Trauma Manual of Operative Techniques is a valuable resource for practicing surgeons in the community who cover the Emergency Department and thus, may be called upon to provide operative therapy for trauma, residents, particularly those in whom operative trauma is not a part of their training, and fellows who are training in surgical critical care and trauma.

This concise, well-illustrated monograph explains the true pathogenesis, hitherto unsolved, of five key pain syndromes of the arm and describes diagnosis, indications for surgery, surgical techniques, and results. The syndromes in question are tennis elbow, golf elbow, proximal radial nerve compression syndrome, so-called coracoiditis, and Sudeck’s dystrophy. In each case, the neurogenic pathogenesis is identified and deficiencies of other interpretations, for example that these conditions are the result of degenerative processes, are discussed. Appropriate surgical techniques in resistant cases are described in the context of pathogenesis, and treatment outcomes are documented. The fact that these outcomes are excellent in the large majority of cases may be taken as support for the author’s interpretation of pathogenesis. This book will be informative and instructive for all hand, orthopedic, trauma, plastic, general, and neurosurgeons as well as neurologists and hand therapists.
