This thesis by Åsa-Sara Sernheim explores the everyday lives of girls and women with Rett syndrome (RTT) in Sweden. It investigates which activities are performed and enjoyed by individuals with RTT, highlighting significant reliance on support for daily activities. The research includes two studies: a descriptive study using secondary data from 175 participants and a diary study involving 10 participants. The findings reveal that girls and women with RTT enjoy activities involving 'contact', 'sensory impressions', and 'motion'. Commonly enjoyed activities include bathing, listening to music, and being outdoors, while disliked activities often pertain to daily care. The research emphasizes the importance of varied and enjoyable activities, beyond basic needs, for the well-being and development of individuals with RTT.
