Contrapunt is een oude techniek om klassieke muziek te schrijven. Het doel van dit project is om de beginselen van het contrapunt te automatiseren zodat oefeningen gecontroleerd en zelfs (deels) opgelost kunnen worden aan de hand van contrapuntregels die de gebruiker zelf oplegt. Die regels kunnen de klassieke regels zijn of regels die de gebruiker zelf heeft opgesteld. Dit alles wordt beschikbaar gemaakt via een website om de drempel naar de gebruiker toe te verlagen.Het uiteindelijke resultaat (in testopstelling) kan (bijna) ogenblikkelijk muziekstukken controleren en genereren. Het genereren gebeurt via het genetisch algoritme. De testopstelling werkt met een (relatief) weinig aantal regels waardoor het moeilijk is effectief te zien of het algoritme ook goed zal werken met grotere regelsets. De backtrackingmethode ziet er veelbelovend uit als er veel regels zijn die de zoekruimte kunnen voorspellen in meerdere doorlopen. Counterpoint is an old technique to write classical music. The goal of the project is to automate the principles of counterpoint in order to check and even (partially) solve exercises using counterpoint rules that the user can impose. These rules can be the classical rules or rules that are drafted by the user. All this is made available via a website. This to make it more accessible for the end user.The final result (in a test setup) has the ability to (almost) immediately check and generate music pieces. Generating solutions is based on a genetic algorithm. The test setup works with a (relatively) small amount of rules which makes it difficult to see if the algorithm will work with a larger set of rules. The backtrackong method looks promising when there are a lot of rules that can predict the search space in multiple runs.

Het 'Internet of Things' baseert zich op de technologie van microcomputers met draadloze internetmogelijkheden, motes genaamd. Via deze motes kunnen toestellen worden verbonden met het Internet. De motes die aangesloten zijn op de toestellen kunnen hiervan informatie afhalen of kunnen deze acties laten uitvoeren. Dit bezorgt een verhoogde vorm van domotica.Voordat men een gebouw kan introduceren aan het Internet of Things, is het beter als de embedded applicaties op de motes eerst worden getest via simulaties. Deze simulaties zijn verdeeld in drie lagen, namelijk de omgeving met de toestellen, de motes die op de toestellen aangesloten zijn en de besturing van die motes. Voor de motes en de besturing bestaan er al goede simulatoren. Voor de omgeving was er echter nog niets beschikbaar.Het doel van deze masterproef is dus om een bruikbare simulator te maken voor elke omgeving met toestellen. Via deze simulator zal de gebruiker de mogelijkheid krijgen om instellingen van toestellen aan te passen. Hiernaast kan realistische informatie van sensoren worden verkregen. The 'Internet of Things' is based on the technology of microcomputers with wireless internet possibilities, named motes. These motes give the possibily of connecting devices to the internet. Motes that are connected to devices can receive from and send information to these devices or can let them perform actions. This makes an improved version of domotics possible.Before implementing the Internet of Things in a building, it is better to test embedded applications with simulations. These simulations are divided in three layers, which are the environment in which the devices are placed, the motes that are connected to the devices and the system that communicates with the motes. There already are good simulators for the motes and the communication. However, no simulator was available for the environment.The goal of this thesis is to build an usable simulator for the environment of devices. This simulator gives the user the possibility to edit the configuration of the devices. Also, realistic information can be retrieved from the sensors.
