A thorough understanding of the interaction of waves and currents with offshore structures has now become a vital factor in the safe and economical design of various offshore technologies. There has been a significant increase in the research efforts to meet this need. Although considerable progress has been made in the offshore industry and in the understanding of the interaction of waves, currents, and wind with ocean structures, most of the available books concentrate only on practical applications without a grounding in the physics. This text integrates an understanding of the physics of ocean-structure interactions with numerous applications. This more complete understanding will allow the engineer and designer to solve problems heretofore not encountered, and to design new and innovative structures. The intent of this book is to serve the needs of future generations of engineers designing more sophisticated structures at ever increasing depths.

Wave motion is one of the broadest scientific subjects in nature, especially water waves in the near-shore region which present more richness and complexity of variability with respect to deep-water waves. ""Dynamics of Surface Waves in Coastal Waters: Wave-Current-Bottom Interactions"" develops the typical basic theories (e.g. mild-slope equation and shore-crested waves) and applications of water wave propagation with an emphasis on wave-current-bottom interactions and Hamiltonian systems. In recent times, the interest in water wave propagation has accelerated because of rapid developments in

"This unique compendium comprehensively covers several important topics related to the field of maritime hydraulics, particularly the underlying physics in the wave structure interaction with the coastal structures, coastal and inland flooding during extreme events in addition to perineal erosion. These topics are well understood through physical and numerical modelling, in which the scale effects, proving the models and its range of applicability are vividly discussed. This useful reference text serves as a guide to engineers, planners, researchers, decision makers and graduate students working in the field of coastal, estuarine and harbor engineering"--

This book discusses the subject of wave/current flow around a cylinder, the forces induced on the cylinder by the flow, and the vibration pattern of slender structures in a marine environment. The primary aim of the book is to describe the flow pattern and the resulting load which develops when waves or current meet a cylinder. Attention is paid to the special case of a circular cylinder. The development in the forces is related to the various flow patterns and is discussed in detail. Regular as well as irregular waves are considered, and special cases like wall proximities (pipelines) are also investigated. The book is intended for MSc students with some experience in basic fluid mechanics and for PhD students.

With this self-contained and comprehensive text, students and researchers will gain a detailed understanding of the fundamental aspects of the hydrodynamic control of wave energy converters. Such control is necessary to maximise energy capture for a given device configuration and plays a major role in efforts to make wave energy economic. Covering a wide range of disciplines, the reader is taken from the mathematical and technical fundamentals, through the main pillars of wave energy hydrodynamic control, right through to state-of-the-art algorithms for hydrodynamic control. The various operating principles of wave energy converters are exposed and the unique aspects of the hydrodynamic control problem highlighted, with a variety of potential solutions discussed. Supporting material on wave forecasting and the interaction of the hydrodynamic control problem with other aspects of wave energy device optimisation, such as device geometry optimisation and optimal device array layout, is also provided.
