Among the polygonal walls, those of Amelia are particularly interesting because they contain a large number of concave blocks. A concave stone generates in the wall system a condition of double constraint given that it comes into contact with the adjacent one on two sides instead of one. Therefore, the concave blocks represent a structural innovation that inserts in the polygonal walls, in an intentional way, as many points of constraint of a higher degree, with the result of obtaining a greater solidity of the whole wall. The extraordinary ones of Cuzco? much more recent than the walls of Amelia and here documented together with others in Italy and in the rest of the world? constitute an excellent demonstration of this principle. The section of the polygonal walls of Amelia designated with the letters E-F in the survey, contains two concave stones that come into contact with each other on three sides. A rarity that has earned the cover.
