Abstract

Abstract

Smart Cameras Edited by: Ahmed Nabil Belbachir Although there are many "definitions" of smart cameras offered by the media, camera manufacturers and developers, still no binding definition exists. For the purpose of this book, a smart camera is defined as a vision system which, in addition to image capture circuitry, is capable of extracting application-specific information from the captured images, along with generating event descriptions or making decisions that are used in an intelligent and automated system. This book provides a single-source reference, with content from several disparate scientific, technological and commercial aspects related to smart cameras: photoreceptors, pixels, signal processing, image sensor architectures, embedded systems, computer vision, sensor networks, applications of smart cameras and market trends. It provides background information, fundamentals, and an overview of the historical evolution, applications and the latest trends in intelligent camera concepts for professionals, researchers and practitioners. Provides information on smart cameras for an interdisciplinary audience (embedded systems; image processing; camera technology) of professionals, practitioners and students; Integrates coverage of hardware electronics, signal processing, embedded computing, computer vision, sensor networks and smart camera applications in surveillance, machine vision and the automotive industry; Includes an analysis of the smart camera market evolution, based on interviews with market leaders.

Abstract

This book is an attempt to bring closer the greater vision of the development of Social Informatics. Social Informatics can be de?ned as a discipline of informatics that studies how information systems can realize social goals, use social concepts, or become sources of information about social phenomena. All of these research directions are present in this book: fairness is a social goal; trust is a social concept; and much of this book bases on the study of traces of Internet auctions (used also to drive social simulations) that are a rich source of information about social phenomena. The book has been written for an audience of graduate students working in the area of informatics and the social sciences, in an attempt to bridge the gap between the two disciplines. Because of this, the book avoids the use of excessive mathematical formalism, especially in Chapter 2 that attempts to summarize the theoretical basis of the two disciplines of trust and fa- ness management. Readers are usually directed to quoted literature for the purpose of studying mathematical proofs of the cited theorems.

Abstract

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Coordination Languages and Models, COORDINATION '96, held in Cesena, Italy in April 1996. Over the last few years, a new class of models, formalisms, and mechanisms for describing concurrent and distributed computations has emerged. A characteristic feature of these coordination languages and models is that they are based on (generative) communication via a shared data space. The 21 revised full papers presented were selected from a total of 78 submissions; also included are three invited papers and 10 posters. All in all, these papers report the state of the art in this young and active area of research and development.

Abstract

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Web Engineering, ICWE 2013, held in Aalborg, Denmark, in July 2013. The 21 full research papers, 4 industry papers, and 11 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 92 submissions. The scientific program was completed with 7 workshops, 6 demonstrations and posters. The papers cover a wide spectrum of topics, such as, among others: web mining and knowledge extraction, semantic and linked data management, crawling and web research, model-driven web engineering, component-based web engineering, Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and client-side programming, web services, and end-user development.
