"The Good Friday commemoration of the burial of Christ gave birth in the Middle Ages to two ceremonies that made use of articulated figures. When performed by the clergy, it was a liturgical ritual called Depositio. This ceremony appeared toward the fourteenth century and disappeared after the Council of Trent. A paraliturgical ceremony, performed by members of penitential confraternities, appeared around the same time but has survived until our time, where it is still performed in Europe in countries like Italy or Spain, and outside of Europe, in countries that were part of New Spain or the Portuguese Empire. This volume studies these rituals in medieval Bohemia, the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, Scandinavia, and the German-speaking lands."

Vendredi' is een van de meest ongewone tijdschriften die de Belgische surrealisten hebben uitgebracht. Het is met de hand geschreven, werd nooit gepubliceerd en verscheen wekelijks gedurende een kleine twee jaar, van 11 november 1949 tot 5 oktober 1951. Er werden in totaal meer dan 100 nummers gemaakt door initiatiefnemer Paul Colinet, in samenwerking met o.a. René Magritte, Marcel Mariën, Louis Scutenaire, Irène Hamoir, Marcel Broodthaers en Pierre Alechinsky. Paul Colinet verstuurde het magazine op vrijdag naar zijn neef, de tekenaar Robert Willems, die toen in Belgisch Congo woonde. Deze facsimile uitgave van 900 pagina's doorslagpapier biedt een unieke getuigenis van de veelzijdigheid van het Belgisch surrealisme. Elk 'Vendredi'-nummer is een kunstwerkje op zichzelf: de pagina's zijn prachtig geïllustreerd en bevatten handgeschreven gedichten en allerhande schrijfels, nieuwtjes, grappen, tekeningen, collages en krantenknipsels.
