This book aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the organised financial markets of the City of London, with a mix of analytical and descriptive material and a distinctive emphasis on microstructural issues, that is on the mechanisms by which trading is organised and on the roles which different market participants perform. The first chapter introduces analytical material on the nature of market making, provides a historical background and looks at the forex and swaps markets. Further chapters examine the principal organised financial markets in London ; those for equities, sterling bonds, futures and options, eurobonds, and money. The book concludes with an examination of the issues involved in the regulation of financial markets. Students taking 2nd abd 3rd year options in money, banking and finance as part of an economics or business studies degree, particularly students aiming for a career in the City, for large parts of the mechanisms within which they operate are discussed in it.
