Projekt, zlecony przez Centrum Komunikacji Społecznej Urzędu m.st. Warszawy, dotyczy 3 problemów badawczych: potencjału więziotwórczego ławek, otoczenia ławek i chęci korzystania z nich oraz ławek dedykowanych seniorom. Dzięki analizie przykładów wielu warszawskich ławek sformułowano wytyczne do projektowania miejsc do siedzenia na ulicach i placach stolicy. Niebanalnie o banalnym temacie - tak w telegraficznym skrócie można opisać pracę wykonaną przez multidyscyplinarny zespół studentów pod kierownictwem Mai Skibińskiej i Mariusza Wieczorka. Over the past few decades, rapid urbanisation has threatened to erode public space, especially in emerging economies. Market forces that prioritise profit generation are allowed to construct venues of consumption in its place. Though their physical appearance may resemble traditional public space, in reality, they are greatly restrictive and diminished in affordability, accessibility and social meaning. It is in this context that William SW Lim, chairman of Asian Urban Lab, has brought together architects, designers, historians, sociologists and urbanists from the region to discuss public space

For several years, space has been developing into an issue of growing importance in the field of urban history. The uses of space as well as memorial cultures in a spatial context have attracted a particular interest. The contributions to the present volume, predominantly written in English, engage with this ‘spatial turn’. They focus especially on the functions of the city (e.g. market, commerce) and city development, on the city space and its representation, on the city and its ‘hinterland’, and on the development of urban districts. These topics will be discussed with reference to European cities in the medieval and the modern periods.

The nine empirical studies in New Narratives of Urban Space in Republican Chinese Cities , organized under the general framework of urban space, examine three critical dimensions of the great urban transformation in Republican China—social, legal and governance orders. Together these narratives suggest a new perception of this historical urbanism. While modern economic development was a major drive for Chinese urban transformation, this volume highlights the dimension of the multilayered forces that shape urban space by looking into that less quantifiable, but equally important cultural realm and by exposing the ways in which these forces created new urban narratives, which became themselves shapers of urban space and of our perception of the Republican urbanity.

Care and the City is a cross-disciplinary collection of chapters examining urban social spaces, in which caring and uncaring practices intersect and shape people's everyday lives. While asking how care and uncare are embedded in the urban condition, the book focuses on inequalities in caring relations and the ways they are acknowledged, reproduced, and overcome in various spaces, discourses, and practices. This book provides a pathway for urban scholars to start engaging with approaches to conceptualize care in the city through a critical-reflexive analysis of processes of urbanization. It pursues a systematic integration of empirical, methodological, theoretical, and ethical approaches to care in urban studies, while overcoming a crisis-centered reading of care, and the related ambivalences in care debates, practices, and spaces. These strands are elaborated via a conceptual framework of care and situated within broader theoretical debates on cities, urbanization, and urban development with detailed case studies from Europe, the Americas, and Asia. By establishing links to various fields of knowledge, this book seeks to systematically introduce debates on care to the interconnecting fields of urban studies, planning theory, and related disciplines for the first time.
