In this work new methods and criteria for the analysis of Ultra Wideband (UWB) components and systems are introduced. This permit to have a deeper insight into the component characteristics like signal distortion, ringing and dispersion, introduced by the non-ideal behavior of the UWB components over the wide frequency band. The developed analyses are the basis for correction and optimization strategies for the features of the UWB components and systems, compensating for their non-idealities.

In diesem Buch werden die Eigenschaften des ultrabreitbandigen und richtungsaufgelößten Funkkanals umfassend analysiert. Auf Basis von strahlenoptischen Verfahren werden zwei hybride Modellierungsansätze vorgeschlagen, welche die Streuprozesse im Funkkanal nachbilden. Die Modelle werden mit Messungen verifiziert und in Systemsimulationen eines MIMO-UWB Kommunikationssystems eingesetzt. Anhand dieser Simulationen wird der Leitfaden zum Design von Antennenarrays für solche Systeme abgeleitet.

Die Arbeit untersucht Funk-Übertragung bei extrem großer Bandbreite. Zur Übertragung werden Komponenten benötigt, die über der gesamten Bandbreite konstante Eigenschaften aufweisen. Dies ist in der Realität nicht realisierbar und führt zu Signalstörungen. Die Arbeit modelliert solche Nicht-Idealitäten, bindet sie in ein messdatenbasiertes Systemmodell ein, untersucht das Systemverhalten und optimiert die Performance durch Methoden der Kompensation und optimaler Signalisierung.

In this work, the realization limits of an impulse-based Ultra-Wideband (UWB) localization system for indoor applications have been thoroughly investigated and verified by measurements. The analysis spans from the position calculation algorithms, through hardware realization and modeling, up to the localization experiments conducted in realistic scenarios. The main focus was put on identification and characterization of limiting factors as well as developing methods to overcome them.

In dieser Arbeit werden dual-orthogonal, linear polarisierte Antennen für die UWB-Technik konzipiert. Das Prinzip zur Realisierung der Strahler wird vorgestellt, theoretisch und simulativ untersucht, sowie messtechnisch verifiziert. Danach werden Konzepte zur Miniaturisierung der Strahler dargelegt, die anschließend zum Aufbau von Antennengruppen verwendet werden. Die Vorteile der entwickelten Antennen werden praktisch anhand des bildgebenden Radars und des Monopuls-Radars gezeigt.
