Der demografische Wandel stellt eine massive Herausforderung für die Finanzierung der gesetzlichen Rentenversicherung dar. Die Politik hat daher eine Neuordnung innerhalb des Drei-Säulen-Systems der Alterssicherung angestoßen. Künftige Alterseinkommen werden zu einem deutlich geringeren Teil aus der umlagefinanzierten Rentenversicherung kommen und dafür in stärkerem Ausmaß aus kapitalgedeckter betrieblicher und privater Vorsorge stammen müssen. Der Weg dazu ist durch weitreichende Fördermöglichkeiten (z.B. Entgeltumwandlung und Riesterrente) geschaffen worden. Der Autor untersucht, ob das so reformierte deutsche Alterssicherungssystem angesichts der demografischen Entwicklung zukunfts- und leistungsfähig genug ist, um die Absicherung künftiger Rentnergenerationen zu gewährleisten.
