Abstract

T-cell leukemia is relatively rare malignancy of thymocytes. There are around 20 entities and variants of this disease. Each of them has different characteristics, including pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis, therapeutic approaches, and prognosis. Although T-cell leukemia is relatively rare malignancy, many types of T-cell leukemias still have a very poor prognosis due to rapid progression. Therefore, the development of novel therapeutic and preventive strategies is necessary to improve prognosis. The purpose of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview of the disease from the basics of pathogenesis, epidemiology, morphology, and immunological features. This book also highlights the most recent achievements from basic and clinical researches including molecular mechanisms and novel therapies of T-cell leukemia.

Abstract

In T Cell Protocols: Development and Activation, Kelly P. Kearse and a panel of laboratory experts describe the step-by-step execution of a wide variety of basic and specialized techniques for the study of T cell developmental biology and of their subsequent activation. Readily reproducible, the techniques are explained concisely, but in such detail that they are suitable for both the novice and experienced investigator. Coverage includes treatment of both fundamental and novel experimental protocols for the analysis of the role T cells play in immune function and in the prevention and cure of human diseases. Practical and timely, T Cell Protocols: Development and Activation offers basic scientists and clinical investigators a valuable compendium of key protocols that will improve skills with existing methods, as well as afford rapid mastery of powerful new techniques.

Abstract

In this book the reader will find a collection of chapters written by different research teams describing different aspects of peripheral T-cell lymphoma pathobiology, classification, and treatment. This work is mainly addressed to researchers already working in this area, but it is also accessible to anyone with a scientific background who desires to have an updated overview of the recent progress in this domain. It will also be valuable to scientists and physicians who have become newly involved in this field. Each chapter is self-contained and can be read independently of the others. This book intends to provide highlights of the current research as well as the current gold standards for diagnosis and treatment of these diseases, showing the recent advances in the personalized approach to T-cell derived lymphomas.

Abstract

The purpose of this book is to present current mathematical and computational models that are used to describe and characterise the immunology of T cells. The reader will be exposed to a variety of tools/methods that go hand-in-hand with the T cell-mediated immunological process that is being modelled. We aim in the proposed book to emphasise the role that mathematical (or computational) modelling has already played in Immunology. Each chapter will provide an example of the contribution of mathematics to T cell immunology under one of the following four headings: i) Generation of hypotheses, ii) Quantification of immunological processes, iii) Definition of observables to measure given an experimental objective, iv) reconciling disparate (or even conflicting) experimental results. .

Abstract

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is one of the 'great mimickers'. To be certain of the diagnosis, there must be clear correlation between the pathological and clinical findings, making collaboration between clinicians and pathologists essential. Knowing the patient's history, lesion description and diagnostic work-up will help the pathologist make a more informed decision with respect to the histopathology under the microscope. Likewise, understanding the terminology used in the pathology report will improve the clarity of the clinician’s diagnosis. 'Fast Facts: Diagnosing Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma' is designed to help primary care providers, dermatologists and pathologists speak the same language. With over 100 superb clinical and pathological images, this concise, practical handbook will ensure clear communication with respect to the clinical presentation, histopathology and immunophenotyping of: • early and advanced mycosis fungoides and its variants • Sézary syndrome • other non-mycosis fungoides CTCLs. It is therefore essential reading for all pathologists, non-specialist clinicians and dermatology trainees.

Abstract

Now, it its second edition, this book summarizes the role of immune cells in tumor suppression and progression. It describes in detail why tumor cells can survive and spread in spite of the antitumor response of immune cells. Since immunotherapy is an attractive approach to cancer therapy, this book also provides information on the two main strategies: monoclonal antibodies and adaptive T cell immunotherapy, with a focus on recent human clinical trials. A newly added chapter also focuses on the role of Natural Killer cells in tumor progression. The book provides a state-of-the-art, comprehensive overview of immune cells in cancer and is an indispensable resource for researchers and practitioners working or lecturing in the field of cancer research and immunology.
