Abstract

Fungicides are chemical agents that inhibit or eliminate mycelial growth or fungal spores. The chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of a fungicide determines its suitability for control of a determined disease. In this book, the authors present current research in the study of the classification, role in disease management and toxicity effects of fungicides. Topics discussed in this compilation include plant-derived biofungicides; tricyclazole and azoxystrobin in rice blast management; fungicides and their role in disease management; classification of fungicides; and effective fu

Abstract

Phytoconstituents and Antifungals covers a wide range of specific information on various phytoconstituents, their antifungal mode and the diagnosis and management of fungal infections. The book offers encouragement and empowers readers to re-embrace their knowledge of phytoconstituents and their various antifungal activities against most opportunistic pathogenic fungi as fungal diseases cause an estimated 1.5+ million deaths annually and over one billion people suffer from severe fungal disease. In this complex scenario, it is now clear that global warming and accompanying climate changes have resulted in increased incidence of many fungal infections. On the basis of all these factors, concerns on the occurrence of a pandemic fungal origin in the near future have been raised. In this context, to stop forgetting and underestimating fungal diseases is mandatory.

Abstract

Fungal infections have taken a new spectrum due to the increased incidence of multi-drug resistant fungal pathogens. Freedom of choice for drugs to treat fungal infections is also narrow because of lesser probability of discovering drugs that would bypass affecting human cells and target fungal cells producing fewer side effects in patients. An approach has gained prominence in research is to look for bioactive antifungal compounds from natural to synthetic sources. It is necessary to discover new classes of antifungals to control the recent emergence of multi-drug resistant fungal infections. This book proposed a details top to bottom outline of antifungal compounds derived naturally or synthetically. The details of their modifications or synthetic analogues have been described, helpful to understand the structure-activity relationship which leads to new compound development in antifungal chemotherapy. Each chapter begins with a comprehensive, top-bottom in-depth discussion of antifungal agents with updated bibliographic references. This compendium will serve as a companion not only for Scientists, Researchers, and Professors, Medical Practitioners but also a valuable reference text for the university students. .
