This publication examines the referential and analytical qualities of textiles through both contemporary and historical works. The contributions in this book reflect on the complex interplay between the various functions and connotations of textiles - such as the emphasis on their tactile qualities or the artistic value attributed to them - and the attendant conflicts and antagonisms that articulate relations of power and value and of the interaction of artistic processes with their overarching contexts.

This dissertation examines the circulation of knowledge in textile art within the context of Lund, Sweden, between 1897 and 1932. It explores the role of the School of Arts and Crafts at the Kulturen Museum of Cultural History in promoting and developing textile art. The study highlights the importance of Sweden's textile traditions, educational ambitions, and cultural history in forming a comprehensive knowledge system. It identifies key agents, such as the Swedish Federation of Rural Economy and Agricultural Societies, in the dissemination of textile knowledge. The work analyzes archival sources and visual materials to understand how knowledge linked cultural history, art, and crafts. It also discusses the roles of various actors, their skills, and actions in the knowledge processes, contributing to public education in cultural history, textile technology, and art.
