The complexity of today's industrial production networks constitutes a new challenge for industrial risk and safety management. In order to handle potential risks to and emanating from industry and their respective impact on mankind as well as the environment, an integrated approach to industrial risk management is needed, since complex decision situations need to be resolved requiring input from diverse scientific disciplines and the consideration of various often conflicting criteria. Providing the basis for the evaluation of such conflicting criteria and for bringing together existing knowledge from different disciplines, approaches from Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) can be very helpful to resolve the complexity of the occurring decision situations. In order to address the various types of uncertainty, which may arise in a decision making process in industrial risk management, a framework for uncertainty handling is proposed. On the basis of a structured uncertainty classification, methods based on Monte Carlo simulation can be used for a consistent modelling, propagation and visualisation of the different types of uncertainty. Special focus is put on approaches that allow to explicitly illustrate the spread, i.e. the ranges in which the Multi-Attribute Decision Making (MADM) results can vary in consequence of the uncertainties.

Primäre Aufgabe einer Ethik der Technik ist nicht die bloße Anwendung ›allgemeiner‹ Ethik, sondern die Rechtfertigung spezifischer Regeln eines Handelns mit Technik, die - als Medium - Möglichkeitsräume eröffnet, verändert, verschließt. Angesichts steigender Unsicherheit, Unschärfe und Ungewissheit der Technikfolgen geht es um den Umgang mit Chancen- und Risikopotenzialen. Dabei hat sich eine Ethik der Technik dem Wertpluralismus zu stellen, angesichts dessen sie nach basalen Kriterien des Erhalts des Handelnkönnens fragt. Sie nimmt mithin die klassische Fragestellung der Klugheitsethik auf, die René Descartes zum Konzept einer provisorischen Moral geführt hat. Diese sichert Options- und Vermächtniswerte unseres Handelns jenseits des Wertpluralismus und mündet in Vorschlägen zum »Dissensmanagement«.

En 1986 paraissait, sous la plume de Jacques Neirynck, un essai intitulé "Le huitième jour de la création", qui devait connaître plusieurs rééditions tant dans sa version française que dans la traduction allemande sous le titre Der göttliche Ingenieur. Comme le succès de l'ouvrage ne se dément pas, il a paru nécessaire d'en offrir une édition condensée sous le présent titre "La grande illusion de la technique". Plusieurs événements évoqués comme des hypothèses dans la version originale - épuisement du pétrole, changement climatique, effondrement du système soviétique - appartiennent maintenant au passé. Il semble donc utile de refaire le point. Si la thèse centrale de l'ouvrage, la montée de l'entropie, n'a pas changé, les problèmes entropologiques se sont eux multipliés et diversifiés: comment faire face à la raréfaction des ressources naturelles ? Comment gérer une technonature de plus en plus complexe et de moins en moins compréhensible ? Comment cesser d'être les objets passifs d'une évolution technique qui nous entraîne selon une logique qui nous échappe ? (4ème de couv.)
