This textbook provides an introduction to the most important themes related to embedded systems, including technologies, communications, microprocessors, system description languages, sensor networks, and high-level synthesis. Extensive attention is paid to development methodology. This part is particularly designed for students and computer scientists who plan to work or are already working as developers. dieses Buch bietet eine Einführung in die wichtigsten Themen rund um Eingebettete Systeme wie zum Beispiel Technologien, Kommunikation, Mikroprozessoren, Systembeschreibungssprachen, Sensornetzwerke und High-Level-Synthese.

Expert systems represent a branch of artificial intelligence aiming to take the experience of human specialists and transfer it to a computer system. The knowledge is stored in the computer, which by an execution system (inference engine) is reasoning and derives specific conclusions for the problem. The purpose of expert systems is to help and support user’s reasoning but not by replacing human judgement. In fact, expert systems offer to the inexperienced user a solution when human experts are not available. This book has 18 chapters and explains that the expert systems are products of artificial intelligence, branch of computer science that seeks to develop intelligent programs. What is remarkable for expert systems is the applicability area and solving of different issues in many fields of architecture, archeology, commerce, trade, education, medicine to engineering systems, production of goods and control/diagnosis problems in many industrial branches.

Various emerging techniques for automating intelligent functions in the laboratory are described in this book. Explanations on how systems work are given and possible application areas are suggested. The main part of the book is devoted to providing data which will enable the reader to develop and test his own systems. The emphasis is on expert systems; however, promising developments such as self-adaptive systems, neural networks and genetic algorithms are also described. The book has been written by chemists with a great deal of practical experience in developing and testing intellig
