This handbook is an up-to-date, evidence based quick, easy reference guide for expert regional anesthesia providers. It will also be an invaluable tool and a great entry point for amateurs' sonographers who wish to understand the basics of ultrasound, its uses for diagnosis and treatment, current guidelines and standards of care. It presents in details challenges, stratification of risks, techniques, and approaches to facilitate effective ultrasound use in perioperative pain control and emergency room pain management. This uses an outline, schematic approach for easy understanding and retention. The applications of ultrasound are vast and cover the full spectrum of ultrasound guided regional anesthesia. This book concentrates and encompasses the most clinically relevant information as a first aid use of perioperative ultrasound. The chapters are concise, focusing on clinical presentations, diagnosis, differential diagnosis which will help you to deliver patient care in a timely and skillful manner. This compact book is packed with relevant, remarkable information related to ultrasound guided techniques and evidence-based protocols and latest guidelines for regional anesthesia, nerve blocks, and opioid-reducing analgesia to promote early recovery after surgery. Concise, practical, and clinically applicable for various specialties, this book fills the unmet need for understanding the usefulness and techniques of ultrasound and its application in perioperative pain management, in particular regional anesthesia and nerve blocks. This handbook enables every physician, nurse, resident and all medical staff to understand the essentials of ultrasound and regional anesthesia, its evolving techniques, and the use of modern equipment to provide patient care safely. .

This book is intended as a practical manual on the use of intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) as a tool for imaging guidance during cranial and spinal neurosurgical procedures. Full account is taken of the emergence of novel clinical applications and recent technical advances, with extensive coverage of the impact of developments such as improved probe technology, fusion imaging and virtual navigation, 3D ultrasound imaging, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and elastosonography. Basic principles of ultrasound are elucidated in order to assist in the optimal use of IOUS and clear guidance is provided on the interpretation of imaging findings in various pathologies. Informative comparisons are also made of the use of techniques such as fusion imaging and contrast-enhanced ultrasound in general radiology and neurosurgery. The aim of the authors is to enhance the general knowledge regarding intra-operative ultrasound brain imaging, standardizing its use and exploring new techniques, leading in some way toward compensating the lack of specific training in the application of ultrasound among the neurosurgical community. IOUS is a sensitive tool that can improve surgical precision and help to reduce morbidity.

Ultrasound guidance of liver surgery is a very sophisticated approach that permits the performance of otherwise unfeasible operations, discloses the true extent of tumors, increases the indications for hepatectomy, and renders surgery safer. Despite this, it has remained relatively neglected in the literature over the past two decades, during which time much progress has been achieved. This is the first atlas on the subject, and it is comprehensive in scope. The state of the art in the use of ultrasound for resection guidance is carefully documented, and new techniques for exploration of the biliary tract and facilitation of transplant surgery are presented. Further important topics include the role of ultrasound in laparoscopic approaches, the use of contrast agents for diagnosis and staging, and developments in the planning of surgical strategy. The editor is a leading authority whose group has been responsible for a variety of advances in the field. He has brought together other experts whose aim throughout is to provide clear information and guidance on the optimal use of ultrasound when performing liver surgery. This atlas is intended especially for hepatobiliary surgeons but will also be of considerable value for general surgeons.

This book presents a comprehensive, state-of the-art guide and review of ultrasound applications for children and infants with surgical problems. It is meant as a single source to provide information about sonographic application, interpretation and technique for a diversity of pediatric surgical care providers, making it a useful tool for the ultrasound novice as well as the more advanced ultrasonographer. Sections address initial obstacles faced by a physician starting with ultrasound such as the scanning techniques, underlying anatomy and normal sonographic findings. The initial chapter provides an introduction and basic overview about ultrasound theory and techniques. Subsequent chapters focus on specific body parts and systems and their disease processes as it pertains to pediatric and neonatal patients. The text also includes a chapter on abdominal trauma and its evaluation with the FAST (focused abdominal sonography for trauma) exam. Diagnostic and Interventional Ultrasound in Pediatric Surgery serves as a useful resource for a broad spectrum of pediatric care providers, including a growing number of ultrasound users, surgeons and pediatricians alike.

This essential volume provides detailed information on all key aspects of tumor imaging with diverse sonographic techniques. In the first part, the reader will find aspects on the main issues in clinical oncology, including screening, detection, characterization and staging of malignant neoplasms, assessment of response to treatment, and follow-up. Then, the examination technique and the main findings of all ultrasound modalities (gray-scale ultrasound, spectral Doppler, color-Doppler, power-Doppler, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound) are described, with special reference to clues and pitfalls in the process of diagnosis. Subsequently all clinical scenarios where ultrasound plays a major role are described in detail. The last part of the book depicts the main US-guided, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Radiologists and non-radiologists performing ultrasound studies will find the book useful in their clinical practice.
