Abstract

The management of international capital flows is a new phenomenon in international financial relations. The IMF's institutional approach to capital controls is a new concept in international relations. For the first time in Polish literature, they were collected in a uniform study. The aim of the monograph is to review selected approaches and research on the determinants of the application of capital controls in the global economy from the perspective of the International Monetary Fund. The financial revolution, the beginning of which dates back to the 20th century, globalization and the development of technology create, on the one hand, opportunities for the development of individual countries, and on the other hand, they carry threats unprecedented in the economic history of the world. Sudden stops, financial crises in the 1990s and in the two decades of the 21st century caused by capital flows gave rise to their institutional location. For the first time in 2012, the International Monetary Fund, following the outbreak of the global financial crisis, adopted the Institutional View, which states that it is possible for the authorities of given countries to apply measures to control the international movement of capital. The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine led to a renewed revision of the views of the International Monetary Fund on the management of international capital flows. The revision of the Institutional View made in 2022 at the IMF states that the problem of capital control is current, important and urgent to be solved in the context of maintaining the financial stability of the global economy.

Abstract

The Eurozone crisis has forced German exporters to speed up their expansion onto the emerging markets, in particular Brazil, Russia, India and China. The development observed in those countries has become an important substitute for the consequences of the economic slowdown in Europe. To illustrate the scale of cooperation between Germany and the BRIC countries, it is enough to quote figures concerning Germany's trade. Between 2000-2011 the share of trade with the BRIC states in the entire German trade exchange rose from 5.5% to 13.3%. In the same period opposite tendencies were observed in the figures relating to trade with the USA, whose share in German trade fell from 9.6% to 6.2%.The report discusses the major tendencies present in Germany's cooperation with the BRIC countries, and examines how the German state supports German companies in their business activities on these markets. The main method used to investigate these processes is the economic analysis of trade and capital flows between Germany and the BRIC countries, supplemented by conclusions drawn from discussions with German experts. The main issue discussed in the text is the role of the state in stimulating the expansion of German companies onto the BRIC markets. In the context of these activities, political relations and the proper use of export and investment guarantees and development aid are of major importance.

Abstract

Can we conceptualise a kind of citizenship that need not be of a nation-state, but might be of a variety of political frameworks? Bringing together political theory with debates about European integration, international relations and the changing nature of citizenship, this book offers a coherent and innovative theorisation of a citizenship independent of any specific form of political organisation and relates that conception of citizenship to topical issues of the European Union: democracy and legitimate authority; non-national political community; and the nature of the supranational constitution

Abstract

The phrase "The 21st century will be the century of Asia" has become one of the most widely used among international experts. The review "Ukraine and the countries of East, Southeast and South Asia: results of 2020 and prospects of development" offered to the reader vividly illustrates its justice. The authors managed to give in a small text not only an in-depth analysis of political, economic, trade, investment ties of Ukraine with a huge region of the globe, but also to outline the main directions of development of this dynamic area. / The review, as expected, pays considerable attention to Ukraine's relations with the People's Republic of China. China became the main trading partner of Ukraine in 2020, is one of the largest investors, and in the future may take first place in this area. The real breakthrough made by the Ukrainian agrarian complex on the Chinese market is rightly noted. There are other areas in which domestic exporters expect success. Problems are also noted. We are talking about the poor domestic investment climate, frequent changes in legislation, lack of the rule of law, and in some cases - bureaucratic red tape in the consideration and implementation of joint projects. The Ukrainian side should consider how our neighbors, the countries of the European Union, are building their trade and economic relations with China.

Abstract

The crisis in Russia's financial market, which started in mid-December 2014, has exposed the real scale of the economic problems that have been growing in Russia for several years. Over the course of the last year, Russia's basic macroeconomic indicators deteriorated considerably, the confidence of its citizens in the state and in institutions in charge of economic stability declined, the government and business elites became increasingly dissatisfied with the policy direction adopted by the Kremlin, and fighting started over the shrinking resources.According to forecasts obtained from both governmental and expert communities, Russia will fall into recession in 2015. The present situation is the result of the simultaneous occurrence of three unfavourable trends: the fact that the Russian economy's resource-based development model has reached the limits of its potential due to structural weaknesses, the dramatic decline in oil prices in the second half of 2014, and the impact of Western economic sanctions.Given the inefficiency of existing systemic mechanisms, in the coming years the Russian leadership will likely resort to ad hoc solutions such as switching to a more interventionist "manual override" mode in governing the state. In the short term, this will allow them to neutralise the most urgent problems, although an effective development policy will be impossible without a fundamental change of the political and economic system in Russia.

Abstract

Sub-Saharan Africa is a giant subcontinent for rhetoric of sub-Saharan Africa. In modern definitions There is some disagreement as to the exact number of countries that are part of this region. According to the methodology used by the World Bank, the subcontinent consists of 48 countries1 differing in level of development, self-organization, historical features of the colonial past, geographical location, natural resources, the spread of world religions and place in the world economic order. The subcontinent has common features: population composition, geographical location and similar history of development. According to the UN geoeconomic classification, Africa is isolated four subregions. However, there are real differences between North Africa and the rest of the African continent. Therefore, the purpose of this report is a deeper definition of economic interests of Ukraine and the formation of political influence in the way of development of economic cooperation and the formation of permanent actions with subcontinent countries. To the Ukrainian interests in the Sub-African Africa should include: markets for agricultural products and satisfaction (direct supplies, participation in UN procurement and others international organizations); markets for engineering products and services; Ukraine's interest in supplying useful wormwood from sub-Saharan Africa; humanitarian cooperation and provision of educational and medical services; formation of favorable international and bilateral climate; group formation "Friends of Ukraine" among the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa; training models for ensuring the geoeconomic interests of Ukraine in the Sub-Africa and a long-term strategy to promote interests on the subcontinent.

Abstract

Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły pozytywnie zweryfikować hipotezę, że wraz z rozwojem gospodarstw rolnych i rosnącym znaczeniem funkcji środowiskowych i społecznych w rolnictwie związki pomiędzy dochodami i aktywami ulegają osłabieniu. Stwierdzono, że istnieją zależności pomiędzy dochodami a aktywami w gospodarstwach rolnych. Są to zależności o umiarkowanej sile wpływu, większej w przypadku gospodarstw rolnych z nowych krajów członkowskich, a więc z regionów o słabiej rozwiniętym rolnictwie. Jednocześnie związki te są stopniowo coraz słabsze, a dynamika wartości aktywów jest większa niż dochodów. Przyczyną tych procesów jest wzrost znaczenia funkcji środowiskowych i społecznych rolnictwa. Następuje to poprzez ewolucję instrumentów wspólnej polityki rolnej UE.

Abstract

Abstract

The slackening pace of important economic reforms, as well as the stimulus measures taken in response to the 2008 crisis to boost investments, have all led to a huge build-up of debt and created imbalances in the Chinese economy, including in the financial markets and the industrial sector. The new generation of Chinese leadership has previously shown a strong ambition to overcome the status quo and resume reforms, setting out a new economic reform agenda in 2013. // Vested interests, which grew out of state owned enterprises and the bureaucracy, have been regarded as the main line of resistance to further reforms. President Xi Jinping has centralised the decision-making over economic reform by expanding the structures of the Communist Party of China. The new tools for implementing reform turned out to be marred by several defects, which contributed to further stagnation of key reforms. Moreover, the slowing down of China’s economic growth has sparked a debate among the country’s top decision makers on the ultimate shape of economic policy, and the pace of subsequent reforms.
