Mensen zijn al eeuwen geboeid door uilen en vleermuizen. Hun nachtelijke levenswijze en geheimzinnigheid fascineren. Al vroeg ontstond een associatie met dood en naderend onheil. Nu staan deze nachtbrakers volop in de belangstelling en genieten ze bescherming, dankzij de inspanning van uilen- en vleermuizenwerkgroepen.Deze veelzijdige natuurhistorie vermeldt feiten en veronderstellingen uit het volksgeloof, oude wetenschap, magie, mythen en legenden. Tegelijk is het een cultuurgeschiedenis die focust op de veranderende houding van de mens tegenover de natuur. De gepubliceerde houtsneden dateren uit de vijftiende en zestiende eeuw.

**Paul Ibou** is a worldwide well-known Belgian artist and graphic designer, born in Antwerp (1939) and is specialised as free-lance all-round creator since 1962 in corporate design, logos, trademarks, covers, posters, art books, calendars, stamps, ets., and still active as geometric painter and environmental sculptor with huge landscape sculptures based on constructivistic mathematic formulas. He had many international awards, exhibitions and publications in Japan, China, Taiwan, S-Korea, USA, Mexico, Brazil and in Poland, Czechia, Italy, etc. He is advisor in contemporary art and with graphic design for large companies and for governmental organisations and member of many cultural associations worldwide. He received the Cultural Prize of Zandhoven (2008) and is Honorary member of his hometown Zoersel (2019). The King of Belgium nominated him as Knight in the three Leopold order.
