Deux décennies après la conclusion du Traité de Rome portant Statut de la Cour pénale internationale, le présent ouvrage se propose, d'une part, de dresser le bilan et de dégager les perspectives de cette juridiction pénale internationale qui a suscité tant d'espoir et dont le but est de lutter contre l'impunité des auteurs de crimes internationaux afin de restaurer la dignité de la personne humaine. D'autre part, il contribuera à une meilleure connaissance de cette institution qui suscite des réactions contrastées parmi les États africains.

This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its core legal texts from a children’s rights perspective. It examines the ICC provisions and its case law, evaluating whether these meet international children’s rights standards, particularly as regards the protection of child victims and witnesses, their participation as victims in ICC proceedings and their role as beneficiaries in reparations. The author proposes recommendations that could be adopted in order to guarantee children’s rights in ICC proceedings. This book is a useful tool for practitioners as well as for academics, both in the area of international criminal law as well as children’s rights.

The date of 17 July 1998, the day of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, will always be marked as one of the major events in the history of international law of the 20th Century. Entered into force on July 1st 2002, the Statute paved the way for the establishment of the first permanent criminal Court in human history. Today, ten years after its entry into force, the Statute has been ratified or acceded by 121 States, additional ratifications or accessions being foreseen in the near future.
